I believe that most search engines would index the page by that address, and do not require a separate domain.[nbsp][nbsp]But it might hurt you with Yahoo and other search engines that use Humans to index the pages????[nbsp][nbsp]The advantage of
www.mydomain.mydomain.com (http://www.mydomain.mydomain.com)[nbsp][nbsp] over[nbsp][nbsp]www.mydomain.com/mydomain (http://www.mydomain.com/mydomain)
would appear to be obvious to me???[nbsp][nbsp]:)
Hope this helps

As long as the URL is good and accessible, there should not be a problem at all using subdomains - they are a great way to give your site more exposure via multiple access methods :)
I would be careful though with submitting multiple URL's that point to the exact same content, as some (most?) search engines view that as spam...
If you notice all of the Geocities pages that get indexed in Altavista and the other engines, you will realize that they don't care how long the URL is :)
Hope this helps.

Thanks Bob and Justin. I would make sure that any subdomain I submit will have an original content.
I am also wondering whether it makes sense to have an email domain name different from the main domain for my members. For example, I might want to use name@grandemail.com as opposed to name@grandesearch.com.
Does this make sense? Has anyone tried this?

All e-mail addresses are overlays[nbsp][nbsp] i.e.[nbsp][nbsp] name@abc.com
is the same as name@bcd.com if it's on the same virtual server.[nbsp][nbsp] An example:
wolfstalks.com[nbsp][nbsp]and under that I have dedges.com as a IRM so Bob@wolfstalks.com[nbsp][nbsp] is also Bob@dedges.com[nbsp][nbsp]so you could list different e-mail addresses that way, but you couldn't have Bob@wolfstalks.com go to a different account then Bob@dedges.com.
I hope this makes sense ?????[nbsp][nbsp]:P

I wonder if it is alright to submit subdomains(which I am considering to use)to search engines/directories? Is it against their policy?
In Futurequest lingo, I am thinking of DS-IRO method. As I understand it, this is akin to having http://shopping.grandesearch.com.
If this is not a good idea, is registering a separate domain for each category the only solution?
