Hey all, I found this great board and site on the offical ubb website, and I am rather impressed.

Basically, I am planning to open a non-profile student resources site with homework help, refferance files, help, tutorials, sample essays, cliff notes, reviews and more. I hope the site will become a major student/teen site but who knows.

Now, FQ seems to be a great host for a site like this atleast transfer wise and tech support but I was wondering, how is the cgi support? Is there a good deal of perl libraries installed? How long/hard is it to get more ftp accounts? Please tell me whatever you think is relevant so I can make a better choice.

Thanks!

Hey Ted, CGI SUPPORT.. well, that is what the forums are for, cuz FQ ain't responsible or required to offer support for 3rd party scripts. But, here in the forums.. we all help each other. http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

As for libraries? Well, they have some stuff over at AOTA, great tutorials as well. Besides, www.cgiresources.com (http://www.cgiresources.com) has the best laid out resources there is on the net! *grin*

As for extra ftp accounts.. I guess it is best said, ask, and you shall recieve.. (and be billed accordingly http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif )

And transfer wise, I believe the process *here* is expedited rather quickly.. but no one can gurantee internic! *not even themselves*

This place is more than some hosting company.. pretty excellent learning center.. we are like family here. What more can I say? I am happy. http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Hello Infinity,

We are a hard-core developers site that is a virtual perl paradise... http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

I myself, keep the perl module library updated, and do take requests for modules that I can pull from CPAN... We keep the CGI.pm / LWP bundle / DBI::DBD (MySQL) / etc... pretty much up to date... All modules that are XS (.c) in nature are compiled with pgcc running high P-II optimizations...

We also support PHP3 (module) / Python / TCL / pgcc / gcc languages and compilers...

Perl is 5.005_02 (pgcc optimized) compiled with threads enabled...

The extra FTP accounts are $5.00/mo and chroot() to a subdirectory of your choice while you retain primary uid/gid ownership of the sub-classing...

FutureQuest was designed from the ground up as a developers server with all the tools available to create your dynamic content effectively and efficiently... I spend a great deal of time tweaking the underlying Linux 2.2.x OS to bring out the most in this platforms ability... Slated in 3 months is bringing the Apache mod_perl backend engines online for handling all CGI activity fed via reverse proxied mod_rewrites...

We are committed to excellence in forward design and customer support... We respond with detailed answers to even the most difficult or tasking of questions and have a support staff that understands our operations at the core level...

Ted,
We've conversed a couple of times over at the UBB and this was how indeed I got introduced to FQuest. Like most people I'd moved from host to host for one reason or another but I can honestly say I see the rest of my 'net-life' being spent here.

Well, I do want to add that the transfer process 100% fabulous here. Andrew and Deb have the process down and I had a smooth transfer of my second domain 123promotion.com. I highly recommend this webhosting company to everyone. http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
