Hi! - my husband and I just spent a romantic weekend arranging for our new home... page.[nbsp][nbsp]And now here we are - and I've spent the evening merrily uploading my files from the places where they can no longer live (long story), finding the CNC page incredibly fast and easy - except that:

1. After uploading several HTML files and jpgs directly from my PC, I foolishly assumed that I could just copy the URL of a page that currently lives elsewhere on the web and paste it into the "upload" line to get the page to upload to my new domain.[nbsp][nbsp]I find that I get a file with the name I want but with nothing in it - so I've been forced to actually do some *work* to move those files... am I missing some easy trick?[nbsp][nbsp](Have you guessed yet that I'm a novice?!)

2.[nbsp][nbsp]I copied a number of image files from my PC with no problem - but one I had to delete and upload a second time before it showed an image instead of a "broken link" symbol.[nbsp][nbsp]And there's another one that I've deleted and replaced several times - and I can't still get it to appear in my document![nbsp][nbsp]It does appear as a stand-alone graphic - and it used to appear in the document it's linked to on the server it used to live on - and I haven't changed the code in the document - and the image is in the same position relative to the document that it was in before... has anyone else had this sort of problem?[nbsp][nbsp]What am I missing?

Thanks!

First off - you can't upload files from another server - doesn't work like that... You would have to download them first (it is *strongly* recommended that you always keep a local backup of your web site anyway)...

Second - make sure you selected "Binary" mode when uploading images ("Auto" mode works, but you might try it as "Binary" to be sure, as I don't remember if the CNC's checking of file type is case sensitive or not...)

Hope this helps, and welcome to the forums :)

Actually, there are some FTP programs that will transfer files from server to server. That eliminates the process of going server to hard driver to server, so it saves a bunch of time. Try searching your favorite shareware site for programs named Connexium, FlashFXP or FreewayFTP.

But Justin is right, ALWAYS keep local copies of your work. If those files are not already on your hard drive, download them first and then upload them. Never rely on the server to maintain the sole copy of your work.
