Design your own postage stamps

Does anyone design their own US postage stamps?

I saw http://www.canadapost.ca/personal/collecting/default-e.asp?stamp=postage last year and was excited by how nice they look - but I'm in the US.

In the US I just found http://photo.stamps.com/PhotoStamps/ but I'm not sure I'm wild about the big stamps.com logo on them, the price per stamp, or the dimensions (1.9" x 1.4"). I wish there were an option to create your own small stamp that looked more like a real "stamp" with just the bare-minimum necessary code for the postoffice to know it's real.

Any other options for custom designed US postage stamps in the US?

I saw something on the news recently about that option. Can't say it made any sense to me, seeing as it costs double the stamp's face value. I don't think I've ever once looked at the stamp on something I've received... It's purely a utility item in my mind. It would be like paying more for a fuzzy velour wrap on each roll of Costco toilet paper in place of the crinkly paper one. Actually, I'd see more added value in that than a more expensive postage stamp... I could be hard pressed to come up with a good analogy on this one.

I've concidered this as kind of a promotinal item, but they will not allow you to do business logos, or any other picture or icon that may be business wise or copyrighted.

For example, if you wanted to have stamps of your pet turtle :yeah: , that would be fine, but you can't do a stamp of the FutureQuest logo. :sad:

Some people love this for holiday cards, etc. and don't mind paying extra.

You can probably get around the no-logo rule by ordering the stamps with just a background color and putting them in your printer, but there could be a problem if there's an actual law against it.

Whatever those custom stamp companies use to make the spamps, you can probably get yourself. You would need the bar code printing software and you might need special ink like you do for printing checks, but any old white labels should work. Not sure though.

I found this (http://www.usps.com/onlinepostage/welcome.htm) page. The websites listed at the bottom offer similar products and services, but only stamps.com seems to offer decent looking postage with their photo stamps.
