I'm getting SERIOUSLY pissed off at these multibillion-dollar companies that treat their customers like so much dog poop on their lawn.

See the map located behind the URL above? If you look in the upper-right hand area for a yellowed town called Norcross, that's where I'm from. Right off of I-85.. Anyhow..

The yellow means "FastAccess" ADSL service is available. Notice on that page that there are no disclaimers, no "Even in highlighted areas, service may not be available in all residences" notes. Basically, what this page tells you is this: YOU CAN GET ADSL!!!

Bah. Go to their order form, fill in all sorts of personal information. Fill in your phone number, get a "line not qualified" message that says "Please understand that ADSL is a cutting edge technology and sometimes one neighbor can get it and the next can't"

ADSL- this is the service that telcos said would be deployed widely a year ago. Same with cable. Some of you remember me ranting about MediaOne's similar misleading advertising about their cable modem service.

Arghh. It just ticks me off how they tell people one thing in one place, get the customers' hopes up, and then pretty much 'bait and switch' at the No Line Qualified page by saying, "But hey, don't fret ole chum! You can still buy our ISDN, 56k or other services!", which are conveniently linked.

I sent off a stern email to BellSouth.net, although I made sure not to use the term "your" in the letter so as not to alienate the support lackey who will inevitably read it first.

Sigh. Yet again, I'm yanked around on the fast internet chain by gigantic corporations.

Whooooo, I hear ya bro!!!!!

Want to see the latest 'bait-n-switch', by a megalomaniac company????

rs.internic.net (http://rs.internic.net)

Registrations are now costing $119.00/domain... Have no fear, Deb poked and prodded around and found rs0.internic.net (http://rs0.internic.net) for the same ?low? price of $70.00...

*sigh* - I wonder if Internic knows that by doing this it's going to make the Hosting companies DNS administrator's life Hell!!!

Note:-- I'm currently angry at Microsoft for taking the time to re-invent all of the nice 404 pages to their own ugly 404 pages and taking away my ability to see what I am supposed to see.

On another note -- It was GORGEOUS outside in Florida today http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Looks like they're gonna be Register.com on steroids. You can still get the $70 option, thankfully.

From InterNic's pages:

Reservation
A reserved Web address is managed by Network Solutions for two years at a cost of $119.00. This reservation will provide you with either an Under Construction page or a dot com biz cardâ„¢

Registration
A registered Web address is managed by the ISP of your choice for two years at a cost of $70.00 (ISP charges not included). The website that is hosted by your ISP points to this address. You will need to provide DNS server information to complete your purchase.

P.S. I'm just waiting for Microsoft to try and buy InterNic.

Hehe, no offense Justin http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

But all the real good stuff happens with the higher-ups.. You don't have root, as they say in the bidness http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

Do you?

But what I mean is, I'd rather the person who first reads my email, probably a tech _support_ person, as opposed to a decision maker, is not alienated by my letter. If he or she is alienated, well, he/she is much less likely to forward my letter on to the appropriate channels.

See? http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Heh.. If we gave Justin root we would have to kill him to protect the inocent :P

I like Justin so I am protecting him by not passing out root http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

LOL - I was kidding, Jake http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif I agree, too, you don't want the first non-important person to see the letter getting mad and throwing it out before someone important can see it http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Yeah, here we can only get ISDN. The cable company is wasting all that great potential bandwidth on Digital Cable TV! Why? A TV does not have enough resolution to justify wasting a digital signal on. And 90% of people do not have a Dolby surround system on their TV either, so what good is "CD quality" sound anyway? Besides that, most (if not all) programming is recorded on analog equipment - I could go on all day about this (I hate TV with a passion) but I'll stop myself now http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

But cable modems could not be that difficult to offer - and they'd make a lot of money in the long run. Oh, TCI cable, my cable company, owns or runs or otherwise has some interest in the @Home network, one of the biggest cable modem networks. But our local branch or whatever wants Digital Cable....

About root access - I don't even give myself root access on my own computer yet http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif And I've known Me for a long time. Me and I go way back...

I could get ADSL, but there is no way in HELL that I'm paying $900 for the install and $250 a month. *sigh*

I may go the adsl route here in a few months, I was told cable modems were to be installed in 97 and have been waiting, and waiting, and waiting, called a few days ago again and they have pushed them to the end of this year hopefully. Just seems crazy to be so far off on a install date, my area has been set with fiber for over a year but they haven't picked modems yet. So as soon as adsl is available here I'm jumping on it, the pricing is not too bad either. They have some pretty good packages but the highest ones are way out of my range.
