I'm getting SERIOUSLY pissed off at these multibillion-dollar companies that treat their customers like so much dog poop on their lawn.
See the map located behind the URL above? If you look in the upper-right hand area for a yellowed town called Norcross, that's where I'm from. Right off of I-85.. Anyhow..
The yellow means "FastAccess" ADSL service is available. Notice on that page that there are no disclaimers, no "Even in highlighted areas, service may not be available in all residences" notes. Basically, what this page tells you is this: YOU CAN GET ADSL!!!
Bah. Go to their order form, fill in all sorts of personal information. Fill in your phone number, get a "line not qualified" message that says "Please understand that ADSL is a cutting edge technology and sometimes one neighbor can get it and the next can't"
ADSL- this is the service that telcos said would be deployed widely a year ago. Same with cable. Some of you remember me ranting about MediaOne's similar misleading advertising about their cable modem service.
Arghh. It just ticks me off how they tell people one thing in one place, get the customers' hopes up, and then pretty much 'bait and switch' at the No Line Qualified page by saying, "But hey, don't fret ole chum! You can still buy our ISDN, 56k or other services!", which are conveniently linked.
I sent off a stern email to BellSouth.net, although I made sure not to use the term "your" in the letter so as not to alienate the support lackey who will inevitably read it first.
Sigh. Yet again, I'm yanked around on the fast internet chain by gigantic corporations.
