For the very first time since opening my FutureQuest account, I got a spam in my inbox yesterday. And today I got two.

Is there something wrong with spamassassin? Is it time for an upgrade? Or was something changed?

Two spams isn't much (with my last e-mail address I'd get 40 or 50 a day) but I've gotten so used to never seeing them that it's kind of a bummer to have had 3 in two days when I've had none in months and months.

Thanks,

Jason

Is there something wrong with spamassassin? No, it's doing ok :) Is it time for an upgrade? When isn't it? Or was something changed? The spam messages themselves... they are _always_ changing which is why the spam blockers are always needing an update.

Spamassassin recently announced the release of SpamAssassin 3.1.0. I believe we are using 3.0.4 so I'll ask Bruce his opinion of the most recent version. It wouldn't be wise for us to upgrade _every time_ as that can mess up the filter settings for several clients...but we do try to keep up with the major upgrades.

It's looking like 3.1.0 might bring some stronger improvements to the rules. However, there are some questionable changes concerning how it operates so we'll have to proceed with caution to ensure no one gets caught off guard by the upgrade when it is completed. We're going to wait a bit to see if a .1 version is forthcoming in the near future prior to jumping the gun for a 3.0 upgrade.
