I recently installed a new modem (D-Link DU-562M external) which is working fine.

However, on booting I now get 'New Hardware Found' - PCI Simple Communications Controller. I've been searching but so far haven't found a driver (XP).

Anyway, what does it do? My system seems to working OK without it!! :hrmm:

Could someone please point me towards a download location?

Thanks and regards to all.

I think it's looking for the modem driver. Not sure why the modem would work ok without it though. Perhaps the system is able to find it on a comm port.

Thanks, ryount - fortunately it's not a big problem.

UNFORTUNATELY it was a very BIG PROBLEM :) :wah:

But i think BOF should do this.

1. go to BIOS SETUP then disable your onboard modem.
2. start ur system then install the new modem that you bought!
DONE!

It took me 2 days on this problem searching through forums around the internet!
Someone told me to turn off my onboard modem, then voila!

Thanks, BigSPLASH.

It took me a couple of days, too, to realise that the 'new hardware found' was the old modem!! :hrmm: I removed the internal modem card and all's well.
