When a new domain is purchased and set up, I have noticed search engines will come by and index the site automatically without any incoming links or submission of the URL.

My question is, will this also happen if I purchase a subdomain at FQ (DS-IRM)? Or will it be "invisible" to the search engines until I get incoming links or submit the subdomain's URL?

Google may possibly find it if someone with the toolbar visits the subdomain. Best practice is to obtain a link (preferably many links).
