Looking for a recommendation on an online service to receive faxes (via email). Would like to setup a local number. Very low volume (maybe a couple of faxes received a month). I'm familiar with eFax & j2; any others worth looking at?

Hi,

I use send2fax. 1-800 (or 1-888) number though. Still cheap and inexpensive. If interested, just google them.

Best regards,
Kevin

I use k7 (http://www.k7.net/)'s free fax service. I use j2 for voicemail. Or vice versa...I forgot. I don't get many of either, so I have a monthly alarm to remind me to fax both numbers to keep them active using the a free test fax at http://www.interpage.net/sub-wwwfax.html .

One annoyance with efax is that a few times now I've gotten a run of 4-5 junk faxes to my unpublished efax number. My guess is that someone must be junk faxing to a known efax phone number block :( Other than that, it has worked great for me for over 3 years now for very occasional faxes.

I use MaxEmail (http://maxemail.com/), but I use the Lite version with a non-local number for $14.85 per year. My faxes all come long-distance anyway (so far), and they are very few.

Thx for replies. I need to receive int'l faxes, so 800/888 #s won't work. There are some horror stories about efax/j2 service on the Net, which is why I'd like to explore other options. Will check above suggestions out; any addt'l ones also appreciated.

Not sure of the efax/J2 horror stories. I use their free service to receive international faxes. Admittedly not for business critical and never for unexpected faxes. As J2 is both voicemail and fax it's a useful number to put on domain registrations as well - important gets through, cold call gets ignored.

btw - depending on the country/carrier you'll find that some internationals can dial 1-800 etc although we get charged normal international rates.
