View Full Version : Partnerships?

I've been looking at the strengths of the FQ community and I'm interested in forming partnerships with some of FQ's members, specifically in the areas of internet marketing (search engine positioning, etc.), CGI coding, and graphic design.
Of course, if you have some other idea of what sort of partnership I might like, feel free to send them to me.
I'm interested in using the strength of our community here to build stronger businesses for all of us.

Since Jacob broached the subject I figure this is as good a place as any to jump in and pitch my services. Those of you who serve web clients might get something out of this message, the rest won't so feel free to click on out...
Currently I'm building my website and I've had to learn a fair bit of CGI to do the things I want to do. Enough to write a set of complex scripts to handle something like the UBB if I really had to. I program in Perl and am now starting to look around for freelance work. I figure I'm more likely to enjoy-working-for/trust another FQ member than I am the Average Joe I find on a bulletin board somewhere.
So... if anyone is looking to add a cgi-programming resource to their list I'd appreciate it if you kept me in mind. I'm not starving yet (I have my wife to thank for that) but I am hungry for some work.
Thanks.
P.S. If it helps at all I have a doctorate (although it hasn't helped me that much http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif)
P.P.S. Oops! I fogot to mention, the cgi scripts on my site are hidden (I'm in development) so email me if you want to take a looksie!

Hey Jacob,
The idea of partnerships sounds like a good one. How formal are you wanting to make it? I think it's great how we already help each other out so much here at the forums, are you looking at extending that to doing work for each other on a "goodwill/all will balance out" in-kind basis, or agreeing to offer services to each other at special rates, or just getting to know who's interested and who's compatable for doing subcontract work?
We do custom graphic design, are learning cgi installation and modification, and I've recently been doing a lot of reseach into search engines and site promotion.
We may eventually be looking for custom cgi scripts, but at this point in our business start-up, we can't afford to outsource much, and the Cdn-US exchange rate makes American prices quite expensive for us http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif though it makes our services very affordable for Americans http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif
I'd be interested in developing this idea further, and hearing what others think.

Hey Jacob,
If your looking for a seasoned Systems Administrator to build and operate the servers to host your domain on, you can count me in... http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

Weird.. my browser has all of a sudden decided to show my password in cleartext instead of bullets..
anyhow, I was thinking more on the lines of sending subcontracting work around each others' way. There are certain areas I know I'm far behind and certain areas in which I think I could help. Capiche? http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
If you get into in kind or lower prices sort of things there's more room for disagreement, and I think informal is the way to go, at least for me right now http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

I agree, Jake, that sounds best. And I would also be more comfortable with looking for subcontractors here at FQ rather than venturing off into the great beyond to start my search. http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

does that mean you want me to send my next payment to FQ as a box of non-perishible foods and canned goods?

HI,
Nice idea.
As I am in India. I think I am the cheapest speaciallly if you want to offload work to us.
The $ to ruppe rate is 1$: 42Rs. Thefore it does make things a lot more cheaper than most western countries.
ANd it would also make work more costly for us if we were to offlaod it to some american company.
But I am open to suggestions.
THanks
