I just gotta say thank you for being so good at what you guys do. It's been 5 years since I discovered you folks, and I'm sooo glad I did. I have a client with an existing site that I'm re-doing and the site is hosted on Apollo Hosting. When I asked why, they said cause they had live technical support. Well, I am experiencing first hand as I type this ..they're "live" support is absolutly atrocious. they opened a ticket for me 24 hrs ago and still no resolution.... the issue? .....why aren't basic mysql calls or html forms working? I've been waiting right now ... the last comment i got back from them was "has to be configured on our end." .... i asked them to please elaborate ... and ..uhm.. 20 minutes lates ....i'm still waiting ...

I take the same test script I'm trying to get working on apollo and try it on my trusty FQ site, ...works exactly as it should. put it on apollo ....notta.

So ... thank you thank you thank you ... I have an email ready to go telling my client to dump his host.

although there is one thing that I will ask of you guys, ...
is there any chance the scheduled MySQL backup that starts around 12:15a PST (3:15a EST) can be pushed back a little later? I realize people who are up at 3am coding probably shouldn't be, but here on the west coast ...midnight is a little early... even an hour would be great! ...

Thanks
-James

Unfortunately there are two main problems with doing that...

First, the MySQL backups actually do run at 3:15am OUR time. If we pushed them back another 3 hours to 3:15am your time they would be running at 6:15am our time which is kind of late for something like backups.

The other problem is that it would also disrupt scheduled maintenance tasks which usually have to be completed by 6am. The backups need to get done early so they are out of the way before any upgrades happen (you wouldn't want us upgrading things with only a 24 hour old backup as a safety net would you :P)

We do have a scheduel of what happens at nite which Terra lists here: http://www.aota.net/forums/showthread.php?postid=56093#post56093

Unfortunately we just plain can't keep every timezone happy. Somewhere it is always the busiest time of the day :hammer:

thanks for the reply kevin... but .. I was hoping for just 1 hour... not 3.
... if not .. not the end of the world, but had to ask right?

Unfortunately the hours in the day are not going to permit it right now. As Terra noted in the referenced post, the STATS run was already shifted back an hour to allow for more user implemented processes to run during the server's calmer hours. Moving backups back another hour requires us to move stats back further (e.g. adjusting everything back) and this would cause us to have to begin heavy processing during a busy time on the servers. A shift in processing times *might* happen in the future... but I couldn't say it *will* happen. So ... thank you thank you thank you ... I have an email ready to go telling my client to dump his host. Thank you  We need all of the emails like that we can get --- providing they are not spammy lol :confuz:

- Dear NASA: Please slow the overall rotation of things. Thank you. Does NASA control that? That's scary, I'd feel safer if it were on the FQ control panel...

So, you're saying something similar to one of those audience-control things where everyone gets to participate in trying to set the values? I wonder which site owners would be in there clicking constantly. Hmmm. I have some ideas, but I'm not going to name any names. :P
