Yeah, yeah. I know.

It was just quite frustrating to me. Working on one machine with all my files for the project, and suddenly have to go off somewhere else just to download a file. It's not like I wanted to use it or anything. Just give it to someone else to use. I can understand requiring "Genuine Windows" to RUN the file. But just to download it? What is the point?

And even if they do require someone to have "Genuine Windows" in order to download the file, how does that prevent them from giving it anyone they like after they've downloaded it?

Certainly there are legitimate reasons why someone who does not have "Genuine Windows" would want to download the file? Say, a Mac user with DSL wants to assist their Windows friend with dial-up by getting the file for them. Hrrrm.

OK, I will get over it. :P

Obviously, the whole the whole thing is extremely silly, given your link. ;)

OK, I'm not completely over it yet. Just wanted to add that...
The process made me feel "unclean". You have to download some .exe file onto your computer and let it run first before it "clears" you for the download.

Made me feel squeamish.

I had a problem with Windows update on a work system this weekend. It kept looping through the check never letting me get to the updates. Very aggravating, I know it's a good copy on a Dell system. As usual they make it more difficult for the paying customers.

One of my work PCs is severely "update challenged," but I don't think it's because of the Genuine Advantage stuff. Gotta sit down and have a chat with it sometime...

Anyone tried this new Microsoft Update (http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us)? The way they talk about it, I can't tell if this is a paid "upgrade" or if they're just putting a friendly face on the usual Borg-speak.
