So this weekend I had a Hulkin' Lemonade Stand (http://www.komar.org/hulk/lemonade-stand/) with my kids and wrote that little web page about it ... but then I stumbled across Alex's Lemonade Stand (http://www.alexslemonade.com/) which is an annual event to raise money to fight childhood cancer.

Hope the mods don't mind me posting this here, but I was pretty impressed by this fundraiser which is next week, so I'm taking the liberty of mentioning here in case anyone with kids wanted to combine a fun activity with supporting a good cause.

My kids agreed to donate the $9 they made from our stand (plus a much larger donation from me) to Alex's ... but next year, we'll have to time it better when we have the Big Green Guy out in front of our house again! ;-)

Edited to fix incorrect URL - thanx Sheila!

I just bought Alex's book a couple of weeks ago to donate to the local library after reading about her on a blog somewhere. Amazing story about an amazing lil girl. I think they just sell books that are donated to libraries in my city. Hardcover books sell for 50 cents each, except in the Mid Manhattan library.I'm always careful about the books I select to purchase and donate...making sure that the libraries don't yet have any copies in circulation and most of the ones I pick are very new releases. I primarily donate children's books... (they especially love getting anything from http://www.americangirl.com/). Our libraries do have book sales as well and they do sell donated books in those, but only used books or ones that they already have enough copies in circulation. If you're interested in donating, you may want to check with your libraries to be sure.
