I'm new at this and have questions, very basic I suppose, so have heart.
I want to display a web page, with a sign-in sheet for exclusive members. My investigations for reliability have brought me here. I'm not sure about this DNS stuff, name servers or any of that. Is it necessary to have FQ host my web page. More questions will likely follow.
Thanks in advance!
V

Move this thread if necessary.

Is it necessary to have FQ host my web page.Only if you want the best host with the best service.

I think you'll need to ask more specific questions, but I'm sure they'll be answered well here. You might want to check this page (http://www.aota.net/) first, you'll find many good explanations there.

Thank You! Andilinks I'll give it a good read. I guess I'm getting website and DNS confused, but I'm thinking they are one and the same.
I notice they reference "FrontPage" a lot. I know that program but I'd like to use another. Will that be a problem?

I've never actually had a site hosted, as you have probably guessed.
Guess I'm just gonna jump in with both feet and test the waters.
Thanks Again!

No. The "web site" is the collection of files placed on a server (computer) that people "see" when they visit your "web site". DNS is something completely different. It has to do with addressing schemes so that people can find your web site using the domain name that you register without having to know anything about how the Internet actually works.

You don't really need to know much about DNS in order to set up a web site. If you were to host with FutureQuest, all you would need to know about DNS is on this page:
http://www.FutureQuest.net/Services/Transfer/

You might also like to view our Knowledgebase, which has even more info on it than the link that Andi provided:
http://Service.FutureQuest.net/?_a=knowledgebase

I notice they reference "FrontPage" a lot. I know that program but I'd like to use another. Will that be a problem? That should not be a problem at all. You should be able to use almost any HTML editor that you like.

Well I guess its time for intro's. I'm not very good at much, but what I'm good at, I'm very very good.
I thank you for your rapid responses and certainly for your patience. I can see I have a lot of reading.
Congratulations! graphicsplayground.us is now a Visionary on a FutureQuest!
Can't be too tough, I got this far. Registrared and I guess "hosted". Now for the fun part :clapper:
I will need some direction on where best to post my questions. So if any of the admins or mods feel the need, just move me around. If you see me breaking any rules, Please let me know right away. :yeah:
Thanks!
