View Full Version : Dennis..you blow so hard.
Hey Marv, are you ready? Does it seem like deja vu?
I've got to go in to work and ride the hurricane desk for landfall and the immediate aftermath tomorrow. It should be fun. It's definitely more fun than working the day before and afterwards as it has the element of the unknown because we generally lose the feeds once the winds get too high and the dishes come down but then as soon as the winds come down again, we get back on the air and see what happened.
If I ever leave there and find a new position, it's the one part of the job I will miss the most.

We asked this guy if he felt we should evacuate...

Not a chance!
Everything should be fine in our location :) It's cloudy and a bit breezy but that's about it thus far. We're under tornado watch and wind advisory with the rest of central FL but nothing scarier than a toppled over trash can or two is the general feeling around here.
Dennis does have a softer side... it's just waayyyyyy over on the outer bands lol. His first sprinkle hit a bit ago and simply grazed our flowers with a morning mist ;)

Everyone in the path stay safe, be smart, and we'll see you on the flipside with aide and recovery...for the flowers will still bloom :)
Heck "Lil'Betsy" has ADORED all of the rain this past month and is starting to sprout up quite nicely. May have an avocado in a few years :P

I just wish everyone else was in our position or better. I can't even imagine the stress up north. Nor what those in the southern regions went through last night in Cuba.

People I know have a knack for getting in the way of hurricanes these days.
Housesitting Client #3 flew into Florida today for a week's vacation, but she's on the east coast.
Housesitting Client (and Employer) #2 was supposed to be in Florida this weekend but scrapped it because of the weather uncertainties. I don't know which part of the state she was headed for.
As far as I know, Housesitting Client (and Employer) #1 wasn't planning to be anywhere near Florida right now. I think she had enough of that when Isabel clobbered the Outer Banks a couple of years back.
My mom is in Idaho, but I'm pretty sure they don't have hurricanes there...

I've been wondering about her and even spent some time at picolio poking around to see if I could find a picture.:yeah:

As long as she toted along a gas mask, she should be okay. I hear there's quite a methane problem up there. http://www.capitalpress.info/main.asp?SectionID=67&SubSectionID=782&ArticleID=18278&TM=34143.78
Oh dear, I just looked at the 7pm update...that is not looking good :eeww: for our friends on the northern gulf coast.

As long as she toted along a gas mask, she should be okay. I hear there's quite a methane problem up there. Can't read that one because I'm not a subscriber (even Bugmenot failed me this time). Don't see anything obvious in Google News ... what's up? Oh dear, I just looked at the 7pm update...that is not looking good Jeez. It's like deja vu all over again (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/07/09/AR2005070901321.html). :eeww: Residents of the Pensacola area were especially on edge. At least 100,000 of the area's 400,000 residents evacuated rather than stay and test the storm's fury, local officials said. Memories of Ivan are still fresh, and loose debris and banged-up homes and businesses from that September storm can be seen all over the area.
"I'd say the town is scared to death," said Chuck Emling, 52, a health club owner who loaded sandbags Saturday that he planned to place around his business and home. "It's just my estimate, but I'd say two-thirds of the town is gone. I don't know one person that stayed in their houses last time who is going to now. Ivan was bad." If you haven't already left town with the rest of them, Marv, hang in there...

Hey Marv, are you ready? Does it seem like deja vu? Yup, Dennis was such a deja vu. And like Ivan, my sister and I decided to leave Pensacola. I'm currently in Oviedo where I'm staying at a friend's house.
UWF is closed until at least tomorrow. I have a feeling that classes will start on Thursday again. Dennis seemed to have done a lot of damages, but friends are saying that it's not as bad as Ivan. Nevertheless, a lot of people are without power and the apartment complex where I live is also without power.
The I-10 bridge near Pensacola (the one that was damaged by Ivan and still isn't totally repaired) is closed. So I can't even go home if I wanted to. I've heard that 98 is flooded.

We want Dennis to come visit here in Northeastern Illinois.
We welcome you, Dennis. Bring your clouds and rain, too. We know you're weak and fading, but we'll comfort you as you pass away.
But bring your rain.

Meanwhile, TD 5 is getting ready to become a replacement.

Meanwhile, TD 5 is getting ready to become a replacement. And we're barely into July...
The fact that I'm housesitting on the banks of a tidal creek has not escaped me.
