I got the message:Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'General Mail', Server: 'pop.polisource.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0FWhat happened?

(That happened right after entering my password, and it happened for both of my Futurequest email addresses)

That would be the one. :confuz:

PT01 experienced some problems a few moments ago and had to be rebooted. It should be operating at this time. A full announcement will be posted shortly.

Good, thanks. I joined a musician forum to see if I'm any good when I beat on my chair when I'm board, and I need my password emailed to me.

...I didn't get the email yet. :hrmm:

I can do a drum beat with my hands really fast with the pattern L R R R L R R R... Is there a name for that pattern? I do L R R L R R fast too. How about that one?

Joseph, I'm seeing strangeness on Taz -- sending and receiving errors -- rejected password.

As for drumming, try a paradiddle:

LRLL RLRR LRLL RLRR

...the faster the better.

Yeah, I know about that one. I don't do that. I can't do it that fast.

I just got the email I was waiting for.

Hi Tom,

Just to let you know, we have confirmed there is an issue and the techs are working on it. We do expect to have it resolved shortly.

Our apologies,
Melissa

PS: If you need to, in the interim, you should be able to use QuestMail:

Hi Melissa -

Yup, I saw that QM still worked. And now it appears that pop mail's back working.

Thanks,
Tom

Yes, POP mail is now working again on PT01 for both shared and non-shared domains. The problem you experienced only affected shared-IP domains, which is why QuestMail (which uses full domain names) would still work.

Here's what happened: The software on PT01 that does authentication had been upgraded some time ago, but the long-running daemons had not been restarted. A bug was introduced into the software during the upgrade, but it was not detected until now, when the server crash forced the authentication daemons to be restarted.

Part of the software upgrade included a rewrite of how the authentication looked up domains. Previously, if a domain was not found, it was assumed to be local. The new software made no such assumption. For non-shared domains, this was no problem, since their domain names would always be found, but for shared domains no such match would be present. So, the lookup would fail, and so the authentication would fail, causing POP (and IMAP and SMTP AUTH) rejections.

I have put a patch in place that restores the previous behavior, and will be investigating to see what permanent software changes, if any, need to happen.

Hi Jeff,

Can you please send your information to the Service Desk (Service@FutureQuest.net)? All of our tests have confirmed everything is working fine.

In your email, please provide the following information:

domain:
email account:
username:
password:
pop server:
smtp server:
(The above do need to be the exact settings in your email client.)
error message:
error code:
email software:

Thanks in advance,
Melissa

Actually, Jeff...

Before you do so, try resetting your email in your CNC. Click the email account and you should see a Reset link. You have unread email showing and your email client may just be having trouble seeing it as email it hasn't downloaded yet.

Melissa,

Thanks, I didn't see your response until just now. I did get back in, I went into the email manager and changed the password on each mailbox. Maybe I just had the password wrong? Or, maybe that reset it? Next time I'll look for that reset button.

Anyway, back in business.

Thank You!

Jeff

This sounds like the exact problem I had a while back, and opened a service ticket on. This was about the time of the SSH problems.

And it popped up the other night again for a few minutes...

I'm glad to hear it's been identified and stomped on!

Thanks, folks!
