Well alrighty then. ;) That pretty much answers all of my questions. Being considerate of the server loads however I guess I'll just stick with the standard SSI extensions.

Thanks.

What exactly is the line of code to insert in your .htaccess file so that SSI calls are recognized under *.html file extensions? Also what possible security problems could this unleash?

And lastly, is this permitted with FutureQuest servers?

Hi Mario, and welcome to FQ!

I think what you're proposing is still *allowed*, but it's not recommended, as it's hard on the servers.

There have been quite a few discussions on this, how to do it, why we shouldn't, what alternatives may work better for what circumstances . . .

here are a few links to get you started:

. . . and a quote from Terra (aka ccTech):

It is much better/wiser for you to switch to .shtml or .shtm for the SSI pages....

[nbsp]Two Reasons:

[nbsp][nbsp]1. Extra load on server resources

[nbsp][nbsp]2. Utilizing the .htaccess feature is *not* supported by FutureQuest and the ability could be turned off at any time if the need is shown... ergo better safe then sorry...

[nbsp][nbsp]If you will be editing etc... best to make a nice 404 page that will redirect your visitors to the correct area and go ahead and change the file names on your site...

If you do a search on these forums, you'll find quite a few handy ideas for 404 pages that will help the transition if you need to switch your filename extensions.

Hope this helps!
