I found a problem with the search function in the forums. Weasel has been mentioned 14 times in the forums; weasels 16 times; weasels. once, and weasel. once. Periods shouldn't make any difference.

In case anybody cares, weevils only show up once.

Weebles twice. I like that periods count. Searching Google would be easier sometimes if it searched for punctuation.

Periods shouldn't make any difference.

Searching blah will return posts that contain blah. - but if you only wanted to return posts that contained blah. - then you can search for blah. :yeah:

This is certainly not a bug, and should not be "fixed" IMO.

If you search for weasels you will not get the thread MasterCard Says 40 Million Files Are Put at Risk, which contains weasels.

Unless the forum search gives up different results to different people, like thread views. :confuz: (jk)

I thought I'd dreamed up those weasels when I couldn't find them.

If you search for weasels you will not get the thread MasterCard Says 40 Million Files Are Put at Risk, which contains weasels. This is true. Searching for weasels* will bring it up, however.

I know I've harped on the vB punctuation problem before, but naturally I can't find it now. I thought I'd dreamed up those weasels when I couldn't find them. Dreamweasel MX is in aisle six, next to FrontPlague 2003.

Searching for weasels* will bring it up, however. So now I need to remember to always add an * when I search, just in case my term is next to punctuation. I'll try to remember that. :eeww:

Searching Google for "site:http://www.aota.net/ weasels" will return nine instances (after clicking "ommitted" at the bottom) and will additionally provide a sponsored link to eBay where it is claimed you may buy "weasles," presumably at a very good price.

But it will not return the Mastercard thread, probably because it has not yet been indexed. The weasles...

I've come to expect more elegant solutions from kitchin. :)

I think in most cases, even if you want weasels, you don't want weasels with periods.

I think in most cases, even if you want weasels, you don't want weasels with periods. Not necessarily.

http://www.aota.net/forums/showthread.php?postid=131951#post131951 Searching Google for "site:http://www.aota.net/ (http://../) weasels" will return nine instances A less wordy (but equally weasel-worded) search for "site:aota.net weasels (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=site%3Aaota.net+weasels&btnG=Google+Search)" returns 11, along with an eBay ad that can spell better than yours.

There's even a "LordBite (http://www.aota.net/forums/member.php?userid=2277)" who professes an interest in weasels, but he (she?) hasn't posted since 2002. And his web site has been taken over by ... well, domain weasels.
