A couple of minutes ago, I accessed both of my Futurequest email accounts through Outlook Express without having to enter my password. I'm pretty sure the last time I entered it was hours ago. Anyone have an explanation?

Passwords are required to access your FutureQuest email. Most email clients save this information and do *not* require that you enter it each time you check your email.

You may want to check your email client's settings to see if this functionality is active.

I can't find an option like that. If there is one, I didn't turn it on on purpose. I'll shut down my computer and see what happens in the morning.

Possibly it's something that "just happens" - ie: when you first enter the password it gets saved. I'm not sure if Outlook has an option to require a password each time. You may want to consult the help file, or maybe someone else who uses Outlook will provide some insight.

I can confirm however that it is *not* possible to check FutureQuest email without providing the correct password. I have tested this on multiple email addresses, on multiple servers, and it always errors when no password is provided.

I forgot to ask: are there access logs that I could check so I could see if I (or anyone) checked my email shortly before 1:00 am?

There are no publically available access logs for email at this time.

Was OE running the whole time? Generally, email programs ask for the password when you start the program but there's no "time out" provision -- meaning that it won't ask as long as it's open.

Note that you can close the main window and still have an email window open. OE is still running at that point, and when you "restart" it the program won't ask for your password.

That was it. Ha! I already changed my password though, so you only get 3/4 credit. The login only applies to one application (OE in this case) on one particular computer. If someone else was accessing your account from another PC, it would have no effect on how you interact with the server.

In other words, this doesn't mean they aren't breaking into your inbox -- it's just that you wouldn't know it if they were.

Have a nice day. :EG:
