I have an older disk C, which boots to XP Home. I have a newer disk H, my data disk.
What's the best -- or the easiest -- way to move XP and settings (and Program Files folder if possible) to my second HD so that it becomes the boot disk?

Something like Ghost or Drive Image would be the easiest but if you want to do it without spending an $ you can use dd under Linux. Been a while since I have done it. With a bit of googling I found this article.

Thanks, ryount. I haven't kept up with technology in the past three years, so maybe paying for software is the best idea. I didn't even know about the cloning programs.

This seems like a relatively inexpensive solution (compared to Norton Ghost). Anybody know about this software or company?

This seems like a relatively inexpensive solution (compared to Norton Ghost). Anybody know about this software or company? I use Acronis's True Image, which is another Ghost-type program. If you don't need imaging capability (very useful for backing up an entire drive or partition), you can save a few bucks. It sounds like Migrate Easy is based on the same technology -- it's just limited to disk cloning.
PowerQuest had DriveCopy as a clone-only alternative to their full DriveImage program. But when Symantec took over PQ and assimilated the DriveImage technology into Ghost (resistance is futile), they apparently didn't see the value of DriveCopy. :hrmm:

Thanks, Randall. I don't know if I'll need imaging ever - still doing my homework on how it works.
On Edit: Using the imaging, I'm unclear about making H:\ the boot instead of C:\

Using the imaging, I'm unclear about making H:\ the boot instead of C:\ The usual process is to move the system files to the larger drive which then becomes your C: drive. Changing the system's drive letter is not recommended.
