View Full Version : Windows XP, Pixelated Icons

My sister just got a new Dell Latitude D610, but what I find to be weird is that the icons (in the taskbar, in the start menu and in IE) are pixely and look like really bad quality. The screen resolution is pretty high (1400x1???, I can't remember) but turning it down doesn't make a difference. The icons look just awful. Has anyone else ever experienced this and have a way to fix it?

They've probably changed the display DPI to make the icons and fonts larger, and it's not an even multiple so you get malformed icons.
I saw them do that on a Latitude D600 with an insane 1920x1200 screen (after we turned it down to the proper DPI, the client ended up sending it back because she couldn't see a bloody thing).
It's in Display Properties > Settings > Advanced > General. Change it to "Normal size (96 DPI)."

Ahh, thanks a lot Randall. It was set at 120 dpi (it also said something about 125% ).
I find the screen resolution to be a little high, and it would personnally drive me crazy (I'm very happy with 1024x768, not too big, not too small). But if it doesn't bother my sister, she can keep it like that.
With all these cool features in her laptop (DVD burner, 1GB Ram, Centrino processor...), I feel kinda outdated with my 4 year old laptop :wah:

But I have to admit that 1920x1200 on a 15" screen was too much even for me...
Between this thread and Jeff's Browser Resolution Statistics (http://www.aota.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19527), I haven't got around to posting my own resolution-related question. Guess I'll wait till tomorrow -- getting sleepy.
