I need to set up a simple shopping cart system on our website but my programming knowledge is very limited (i can do basic html)

I am looking for a simple inexpensive shopping cart solution that will blend in with the rest of our site and requires minimal customization. We just need people to be able to put a few items from our store into their basket and have it send the order to us with a form mailer script. It doesn't have to have an online payment solution or anything else too complicated, we will handle the processing of credit cards manually.

I'd be really grateful if anyone can recommend any software.

You may look at Google Directory: Shopping Carts (http://www.google.com/Top/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Hosted_Components_and_Services/Shopping_Carts/).

I think Poe is looking for a first-hand recommendation, but if you want a list mine is a little better than the Google/dmoz list (it can't be ordered by PageRank, but it is more comprehensive and has fewer dead links). The descriptions are from the sites themselves, not dmoz editors...

Would a form do? If so, PGP Form Mail (http://www.rsmarketing.com/pgp/) would work for you. Of course, if you're collecting credit card information, it should reside on a secure server. That's the easy part. The tricky part is implementing PGP. But if I could do it, you could too. There're a few step-by-step posts somewhere in the forum archives here.

I sometime use quikstore. http://www.quikstore.com. Good, quick support, dedicated community, and flexible. (you can simply integrate products into your html, or use the database (flatfile) version.

for stuff about Zencart, x-cart and osCommerce.

I was going to use Zencart, but I found out the user has to register at the beginning of the shopping process, instead of filling up a basket and then giving the personal info. I probably should have used it anyway, because I'm starting to see the downside of writing my own... too much work!

BTW, you missed one cart which is very flexible and customizable - Dansie.
I'm using it for free provided by my host(I'm switching, that's why I'm here;-) ).
It's very easy. If it's not provided by a host, it costs ~$200

What about Mals-e ?
I'm sure a lot of people here using it, and I heard that it's very good . It's on a separate server, though.
Another free cart, HTML Cart. It's supposed to be very simple with not many options, but it's easy.
