View Full Version : Star Wars: Revelations
With "Revenge of the Sith" coming out this week, geeks are on red alert and preordering tickets...
But here's something really cool that's been getting some press (USA Today this weekend (http://www.usatoday.com/life/movies/news/2005-05-11-star-wars-fan-film_x.htm)). It's an excellent homemade Star Wars fan film created by a couple in Virginia. The 40-minute movie is free of charge to download, but be know that the file sizes are large and that the site's been getting hammered, so it may load a little slowly. The CG and SFX are excellent. :yeah:

Broadband alert: 260 MB for the downloadable WMV file or 3.5 GB for the DVD image via Bit Torrent. You may have to use one of the mirrors to get it.
/Speaking of geeks, our VP at work is taking our entire office to Star Wars this Thursday afternoon. No complaint here.

New York Times Review by A. O. SCOTT (http://movies2.nytimes.com/2005/05/16/movies/16star.html?ex=1273896000&en=de80e3d3d9553842&ei=5088&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss)
says, in part:
This is by far the best film in the more recent trilogy, and also the best of the four episodes Mr. Lucas has directed. That's right (and my inner 11-year-old shudders as I type this): it's better than "Star Wars."
...ranks with "The Empire Strikes Back" (directed by Irvin Kershner in 1980) as the richest and most challenging movie in the cycle.
Yeesh. I wanted to see it before. But now I'll probably hurry out sooner to see.
Yahoo review similarly glowed over it.

I think I'll wait for the excitement to die down before I try to download a 260MB file, mirror or no. That's right (and my inner 11-year-old shudders as I type this): it's better than "Star Wars." I haven't seen anyone else willing to go quite that far, but the general consensus is promising.
I'm planning to see ROTS in a digital theater just like last time. Highly recommended if there's one in your neighborhood. :winky:

Here's another wacky one:

Beware, potential spoilers -- there's so much going on in this one that I have to think some of it was lifted from Episode III.
Probably not the TV antenna scene, though.

Very interesting Epsiode III review in The Scotsman: Which one's Darth Vader again? (http://news.scotsman.com/features.cfm?id=543762005)
Written by someone who'd never seen any of the movies, and who may in fact be the first person ever to see them all together with fresh eyes -- and in chronological (story) order at that.
Future generations may think we're a bunch of nitwits.
