Hi all,

I would really appreciate help figuring this out!

The problem is that I am able to send email messages TO a certain nextel cell phone email address, but when that person replies, I do not get the reply.

Here are the details:
1. If email messages are sent from my hotmail account, from my futurequest webmail account, or from a third account on a different virtual server company's server, the nextel phone receives the messages, no problem.

2. If email message replies are sent from the nextel phone back to the originating email address, problems sometimes occur.
a. If sent back to the hotmail account, the message is received. No problem.
b. If sent back to the futurequest account, the message vanishes.
c. If sent back to the third account, sometimes the message simply vanishes, but twice the nextel cell phone received something like the below (see below).

NOTE: the cell phone's email address is in the format 6785551212@messaging.nextel.com

Summary: It appears to me like, when the nextel sends a message to hotmail, it goes thru friendly servers that don't reject the message along the way, however, when the nextel sends a message to my account at futurequest or the other non futurequest account, it happens to usually go through "relays" that consider the email from the next to be spam, and ditch it.

Is there anything I can do?? do i understand the problem? thanks!

This Message was undeliverable due to the following reason:

Each of the following recipients was rejected by a remote mail server.

each recipient was rejected.

Recipient: <my-email-address@my-futurequest-domain.com>
Reason: Message rejected because mmsmail.nextel.com

yes, it is indeed blacklisted on that webpage http://dsbl.org/sender was interesting and helpful.

i'm still wondering though. the above webpage says "You [in this case, the nextel cell phone guy] sent mail to a destination address [in this case, my futurequest email address]. The person who runs the mail server at that address has chosen to refuse email from dangerously misconfigured, insecure, or abuseable servers based on a list that we publish."

is this an oversimplification? did futurequest servers reject the email because it was on that list? (i have spam assassin off). or did some other "relay" server along the way make the decision to can the "spam" (not really spam).

secondly, if it was futurequest that made the decision, can i permit email from
mmsmail.nextel.com to be sent to my futurequest email account?

Hello,

The RBL filtering going on is Server wide and cannot be altered on an account by account basis.
http://www.aota.net/forums/showthread.php?postid=126020

The above post includes additional information regarding this filtering and why.

These filters work on IP only and cannot be whitelisted by domain. Additionally Open relays are some of the largest sources of spam email and if truely open they need to be patched/closed.

yes, i agree they need to be closed. obviously i have nothing to do with nextel's decision to keep its open relay open to spam.

apparently i will have to do a workaround for this , i probably don't have the clout to get nextel to change their ways anytime soon.

Sending them an email about it wouldn't hurt, though. Maybe if they notice complaints piling up they'll rethink their policies someday.

yahoo enhanced email service at $20/year seems to accept all emails, even ones which are blacklisted (unless you keep the spam filter on). and lets you upload the mail from pop.mail.yahoo.com . so i am sending email from my futurequest website, with the yahoo email address as the "from" email address. then when the nextel phone guy replies, it is sent to the yahoo email address . then, i can check pop.mail.yahoo.com periodically to retrieve the mail and process it with php scripts on my futurequest server. just thought i'd let you know about at $20/ year workaround. thanks for advice.
