Capps ~ I saw your comment on the UBB boards:

Waitasec, why do you want to use sendmail when SMTP is not only less of a hassle, but also MUCH faster?
-end quote-

So I guess what you're saying is that it is better to use SMTP than sendmail for UBB if given the choice (like I believe we have here at Futurequest ...)?

Could you elaborate as to why it's faster, just so I know why I'm changing it.

Thanks,
Tom

Okay, I guess this is a case of RTFM because it says right in the variable screen that SMTP is better.

So my next question is this, how does UBB know which account to use, or does it only use the server as a relay?

Also, for the setup do I just put domainname.com as in the email server name field?

Thanks,
Tom

Yes, sendmail is better.

There are two sections concerning this in the variable area.

Email On/Off -- Det this to ON and next to that it says Email Server Name -- for this use something like mail.yourdomain.com or even just yourdomain.com

Then for Email Process To Use -- Select the SendMail option and for SendMail Location type in /usr/lib/sendmail

The above will assure you are using the Sendmail option and that it's working from your account :)

Deb ~ According to the control panel SMTP is better ... I'm currently using sendmail.[nbsp][nbsp]Sendmail certainly is easier to set up ...

Hey Deb, um, you don't need to set the mail server when using the sendmail option - that's only needed for SMTP (which would be like using an email client). But sendmail is better in our case because the UBB does something screwy that Qmail rejects - something about a bare line feed... and Qmail refuses to send it. Sendmail is a seperate program (although it is part of Qmail here, but this option let's Qmail format the headers etc).

Hard to explain (especially when you don't really understand it yourself hehe) but just use sendmail and leave the server name option blank.

Hope this helps :)

Fine by me, that's what I'm doing now, using sendmail because that was easiest to set up when I first set up the board.

When I purchase my UBB, I would like for you all to help me set it up, being that I am very inexperienced in setting CGI parameters...

Thanks
