Thanks Hearts.. I guess I wasn't real clear but that sno big surprise. You are right my customer wants to up-load his photo's to his site and have them converted to thumbnails. At this point his customers will go to the site see the photos and purchase them from there with either a credit card or on their account. Can all of this be done using cgi or do I have to find another way. The 2 main issues here are speed and secure. He is a photographer from a major national paper in Canada he wants this be able to sell his work online during the Olympics. His customers are other news media types and in this game the first one to be posted or made availbe to the other media is the one that gets sold .Kevin

I honestly don't think that there's any cgi that will create a thumbnail, but if he can create one himself, uploading shouldn't be a problem at all. You could make a web interface for updating the page, etc.

Too tired right now to explain how, but I'll be up later tonight...

hi Kevin.. I would have to agree with Justin, I do not know of a way to do that.. but then again, I don't know a whole lot.. I am a trial and error sort of person most of the time.. http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

I would suggest, teaching this guy how to update his site.

I am very VERY new as to what cgi's capabilities are, I wonder if there is some type of script that has a browser control panel that will allow him to update his site, via browser, after he uploads his images, like I have experienced with using the UBB.

Andrew is a lot smarter on a topic like this.. but he is tangeled up with a lot of work with the server's priorities, and Del usually pops in here from time to time, and Justin is most conventional, seems he always finds a way to make something work! (he gets bored) http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

I would suggest looking at what is available at cgi resources, surf around and see what some of these scripts can do. CGI resources, the link I left you earlier today, it describes in good detail what most of their scripts have to offer and are categorized extremely well, and they are constantly updated.

Sounds like your client is new to the net, but ask him if he has seen a site similar to what he would like, send you the url. That may help him too.. to give him a better idea of what he would prefer.

I wish you the best of luck with this client, and I will check on your thread from time to time, I am procrastinating on working on my own site today.. hehehe. I have less than a week to get it up, not perfect, but atleast functionally assembled. http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif
