Oh Hi,

Well, ya know that nice little site you set up for me....it's gone. I developed a starter site in Publisher and tried to load it to SUSOGI. net twice using cuteFTP. Don't know what to do or where to go 'cause I don't know where I am. Sorry. didn't mean to do it...well I did mean to do ti, but didn't know it would look so bad. Any help?

John

Hey John http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif

Glad to see you're trying... that's the first step http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif

Now the second step... let's figure out what went wrong http://www.aota.net/ubb//wink.gif

In order to create html documents you NEED to use a text only editor (like notepad or ultra edit) and/or an HTML editor....

It seems you tried to use Microsoft Publisher to create your page and saved it as such... that wont work http://www.aota.net/ubb//redface.gif Unless it has an "Export To HTML" switch in it (try file save as or file export as maybe?)

I suggest you firstly visit http://www.aota.net/Tutorials/ and check out what I have started in the way of HTML Tutorials...far from completed but the explanation of how to begin and how to save your files etc is there....

After you check it out if you have any problems at feel free to leave a message and I'll try to help http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif

Deb
p.s. you may want to delete the file you have up there now...it's three megs big and I'm betting once you get that page up when it's formatted correctly it wont be but a couple kb in size

Hi Deb, Thanks for the help. I'm up with a site. It needs lots of work, but it's there. I will be trying to get the form working, adding links to SUSOGI and make changes over time.
Thanks again,
John

You're off to a great start John...

I'll keep an eye on it.. heck may even order some smelly stuff before it's all said an done http://www.aota.net/ubb//redface.gif

Keeps us posted...

OK, Deb....I got off and running ok, but am having trouble getting the guestbook and counter to work. I think I've done what was instructed. I've gone over it several times and tried several ways. Still stuck. You know how guys are about asking for directions...lol. Could you take a look and let me know what is up?

Thanks again,

John

Hmmm somehow it seems you got some extra code that shouldn't have showed up in your counter string... I'll look into the CNC to try and pinpoint whatever may have went wrong in that area.... as far as your counter... try replacing the string of code you have with this..

/cgi-bin/Count.cgi?df=Johns-Stink-Shop|dd=FATPT|ft=5|prgb=0;255;0|frgb=0;0;255|PAD=N

As far as the guest book goes.. what exactly are you having a problem with? I notice someone signed it so I'm 'assuming' it's functioning properly?

Is it just the design part of it that you're struggling with? I notice you have what appears to be your background image where the 'title graphic' should be...

looking only at the guestbook.html page

if you replace
<body background="http://www.susogi.net/images/bgbigstreak.jpg" bgcolor="#FFFFFF">

With:

<body background="/Johns-Stink-Shop/index.html/back.gif" bgcolor="#FFFFFF">

Then the background should work for you...

then replace

<a href="http://www.susogi.net/"><img src="http://www.susogi.net/Johns-Stink-Shop/index.html/back.gif" alt="SUSOGI.Net - Smokin' at it's Best!" border="0" width="450" height="66" border="0"></a>

With:

<a href="/Johns-Stink-Shop/"><img src="/Johns-Stink-Shop/WhatEver.gif" alt="Smokin' at it's Best!" border="0"></a>

making sure 'WhatEver.gif' is the correct name of a title image you would like to have there....

It's kind of confusing at first.. but once you get the hang of HTML it'll be a cake walk *g*

Let me know if this helps...

Deb
--------

Well John, you found a bug http://www.aota.net/ubb//smile.gif For some reason with the image you chose two extra characters got stuck into the code generated... and as such, it has now been fixed...thanks http://www.aota.net/ubb//wink.gif

Thanks again Deb. I did get more fised on the Guestbook before you got a chance to look. It seems to work just fine and now needs to be straightened up some. As far as the counter...I thought I had done it right. Glad the bug is fixed. It's so nice when it's not my fault for once...lol.

See ya,

John

That's funny Lea, I think sometimes that the information justs sits on the surface of the brain...Never does get inside. And, the brain surface must be really slippery, 'couse the info. just slides off before I can wrap a thought around it and carry it to where I need it....You must be luchy...you get 20 seconds.

I use your idea about opening two windows all the time. That way I can use part of the info before it slides all the way off the brain.

Thanks for the reply....it made my day

Oh Yeah...I forgot to mention that my page (22 0f 'em) may not get much attention for a while. My puter, well, ummmm...."broke wind" in the middle of a save. Now I can't open my page to make changes or submit it to the web....bummer. I'll get it going again, just not sure how for right now.
