Ok, this is a really weird question. I use the Ultimate Bulletin Board on my web site and it's really popular. It works great. But I've had a couple of visitors who have e-mailed me about problems getting into the forums. They say that a weird "time warp" message comes up and then they're directed to FutureQuest. I have no idea, I'm clueless. This happens to much less than 1% of my visitors so it's no big deal but I'm just curious about what this "time warp" is and why it happens. ???

hey EWS.. it sounds like they were getting the 404 error page of FQ.

what you need to find out is .. how they got the 404 error.. was it from clicking onto a link or was it from typing in the URL.

what I would suggest is that you make a customized 404.html .. you will find that in your www dir. This way, should they end up somewhere else, you can let them know how to go back to where they came from, provide a site map, or whatever. THIS WAY, it will keep your visitors at your location and keep them from being redirected to where they don't wanna go.

hope that answers your question?

This actually sounds like HTTP/1.1 in action.

If they are using an OLD browser it wouldn't support the HTTP/1.1 protocol. On the old taz server (where you still are) this means they would just see the FQuest site and obviously the link they are looking for 'isn't there'.

Once you are on the new SIX server they will see a page explaining HTTP/1.1 and what they need to do to upgrade their browsers.

Now if they are clicking on a link from your page... or are viewing anything at all from your page..then HTTP/1.1 isn't the culprit because it would be that way for ANY page not just your ubb.... tis only true if they can not view your site at all.. if it's HTTP/1.1 just recommend that they upgrade their browser a bit and all will work fine http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Another reason this could happen is if they are trying to get there via IP address rather then by domain name (e.g. need to use domain.com rather then 222.222.22.22).... SIX server has a page to explain that also but TAZ server does not.

Both visitors who have e-mailed me said that can get into the rest of my web pages fine. But when they go to the discussion forums (which is definitely a correct URL) it says "Time Warp" and then directs them to FutureQuest. It's weird. I'm thinking it's because of an old browser or some other outdated hardware/software on thier computer. That makes the most sense. thanks. see ya.

Hey Eric, I had to come back and tell ya, I checked out every bit of your forum and found nothing wrong.

For those of ya who haven't visited, he has a really good forum going.. over 500 members. I would recommend checking it out. It's not a techie site, but is rather fascinating.
