Heh... that option was removed quickly http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Have a feeling MANY would complain.

I, personally, see nothing wrong with IP numbers showing, and utilize features like that on other forums... but to avoid the questions it was turned off quick http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

As long as no serious need is ever shown to publicize them... we wont http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

p.s. I've much editing to do on this new one:/ I think the 'obvious' things are covered though and all is working.

Deb:

Just my couple cents.. I would love to see this board carry the same look as the new FutureQuest site... would make for a nice flow of things.. agree?

Totally agree... but would take a lot of work to make it look the same ...

I'll be changing as much as I can that does *not* involve adding frames (cuz too many do not like frames) and does *not* involve editing the script (though I've already had to muck around in the script a bit). Mainly because I know more upgrades are on the way and I hate having to redo the changes http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif

Right now I'm a bit confused about the 'private forums' ... The test forum is set to private but nothing is showing up once i get it there... still playing around though...we'll see what happens..

Well.. I will confess, I was fixing to head off the boards. Cuz something felt so uneasy.

I don't know what the risks are of displaying IP addresses are, but I know I will be asking my ISP about it first thing tomorrow.

Isn't there a way to log these without showing them? That would be cool. It just felt so invading. I am totally happy to be home again! http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

And the blue, does kinda seem different in relevance to the rest of your site. But.. As long as this forum is here.. I don't care what color it is! http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif

Happy Editing!

The IP number just shows your connection via your ISP... e.g. with your IP number I can kinda figure out what ISP you are using and the general location of where you are signing on at.... hint: just by you messaging me in ICQ you are letting me know your IP number -- its in the user info area http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

Tis nothing to be concerned about.

Hint2: Any website you goto the site owner has access to all of the info you see listed here
http://www.aota.net/snoop.shtml

One note, that snoop thing shows your UBB password. The reason for that is because the UBB cookie is set domain wide for www.aota.net.

No site owner on any other domain has access to the cookies for www.aota.net, so don't worry about that UBB password showing. Only Deb and Andrew can see that, and I'm willing to bet they don't record the HTTP-COOKIE field anyhow.

I like the "Today's topics" feature. That's so handy rather than having to go into every forum.

hum? that ain't good, I set my preferences in ICQ security not to show that. http://www.aota.net/ubb/frown.gif

I don't mind it being logged, it just feels kinda creepy looking at it knowing it is so public.
