I've been shuffling some IRM's around (and their associated email addys) among accounts, while making sure I didn't dump any emails that had to be saved . . . just a handful per account, no biggie - there's that handy dandy "forward or delete email" feature when you delete an email box.

Somehow, while making all this happen, I enabled my catch all (and I know perfectly well how it functions, too. . .)

OMG, I have over three THOUSAND emails in my shell account this morning :waa: ~# . That's almost 60 MB of email. (There are maybe five emails in there I was expecting :rolleye:.) It's so big, even my trustworthy POP Scan Mailbox choked on the download.

I've plugged the hole, but geez am I mad at myself. I am just shaking my head at the sheer volume of email that must fly through our POP servers, straight to the blackhole - I'm just one little account!

Lesson: Quadruple check your settings before you wander off and say, "That's good enough for tonight . . . "

I'm off to dig my way out . . . if you don't hear from me by next week, send a search party.

LOL! I hear ya Mandi. I've got one domain I keep for nostalgia sake. It was one of my first domain names. Nothing is on the account and nothing has been there for over 6 years. At this very moment, if I turn the catch-all back on I'll have over 1,000 emails within the hour. It was WONDERFUL for testing SpamAssassin when it was first being built lol... outside of that... the email ability for that account is useless. The older an email address, the worse the spam gets... :/

After a few slurps of coffee did their magic trick on my brain, I remembered that QuestMail lets you show as many emails per page as you like - and so mass deletion (while protecting some mail) became a lot easier.

Of course now, I have Clicker Finger Tendonitis, but that's why we have Vitamin M (motrin.)

(Kidding; that's why we have Smirnoff . . . )

Even more :* inducing than the initial discovery though, was the giant stack of bounced emails I found in there too - spoofed spam. I so cannot wait until SMTP authentication becomes a tech reality.

Why, no, you may NOT send that dreck through here . . .

when you only have a few valid e-mail entries, it is easier to check those and then "toggle all"
