Hey guys.

Is the built in ftp through dreamweaver supported with the futurequest sites?
If it is can someone point me to a guide on how to set it up. or maybe take some time to help me with it?

THanks a lot

Just follow this guide (http://www.macromedia.com/support/dreamweaver/ts/documents/dw_ftp.htm) on the Macromedia site. The FTP info is in your FQ hosting activation letter, or you can also set-up a separate FTP-only account through CNC.

To securely transfer your files to the servers without exposing your username/password, see this guide (http://www.macromedia.com/support/dreamweaver/ts/documents/secure_connection.htm)

I was gonna suggest you upgrade (if not already using it) to MX 2004 which features SECURE FTP but it appears FutrureQuest cannot use this yet.

I have to use passive FTP (an option in the site definition part of Dreamweaver). I forget why....I think it has to do with using dial-up or my ISP or something. Maybe that's it?

You know, I've had this problem lately with DW MX. It started with the IP renumbering. I do not use the IP address to FTP into the account. I've been meaning to drop a note to the service desk but keep forgetting to since I usually jump over to the CNC to upload, but that's a pain in the butt. It starts by telling me it can't determine server time. I know it's not the machine I am using because I get the same problem on my laptop.

Nope. Doesn't work for me. I even tried it with the I.P. address. To further test it I duplicated the Dreamweaver Site and changed the login info to another website that I recently moved from FutureQuest and Secure FTP works like a charm.

I don't have Dreamweaver (anything) LOL, however using FileZilla I am able to access sites on 4 different servers via SFTP...

May want to try downloading FileZilla and seeing if you can access using that and if so would at least narrow the problem to something with Dreamweaver :dunno:

Not sure if Filezilla would solve the problem as I've also been unable to establish FTP with CuteFTP (again, on both machines and nothing changed on my end before it happened). The problems cropped up with the IP renumbering for both programs.

I'll write the service desk next time I need to upload with the exact errors.

Hi Betsy,

Is there any chance you are using a local Host DNS file that hasn't been updated for the IP change for ftp.domain.com...

What are the results of pinging ftp.domain.com (Your domain of course) :)

Cause if you can't connect with CuteFTP either then that would point to a local problem as I just was successful in accessing both of the domains, via FTP, that I am aware of associated with your account.

Maybe, I'll check it out in the next couple of days. I know it has ftp.mydomain.org as the host but I'll doublecheck. I'm not overly stressed about it right now but it would be nice to use DW again. here are the ping results:

Round trip time to 69.5.2.244: 62 ms
Round trip time to 69.5.2.244: 62 ms
Round trip time to 69.5.2.244: 61 ms
Round trip time to 69.5.2.244: 62 ms
Round trip time to 69.5.2.244: 60 ms
Round trip time to 69.5.2.244: 62 ms
Round trip time to 69.5.2.244: 61 ms
Round trip time to 69.5.2.244: 61 ms
Round trip time to 69.5.2.244: 62 ms
Round trip time to 69.5.2.244: 61 ms

Average time over 10 pings: 61.4 ms

It's just weird because the problem began at the same time as the IP renumbering and is on both machines with both programs without any changes on my end on my main site (the other is stagnant at the this time)

[DW+SFTP] Nope. Doesn't work for me. I even tried it with the I.P. address. To further test it I duplicated the Dreamweaver Site and changed the login info to another website that I recently moved from FutureQuest and Secure FTP works like a charm. I just tested SFTP for belize.com and it worked. With the account username (can't use the Extra FTP accounts), password and ftp.belize.com as the host.

If you can't connect with another SFTP client, such as Filezilla as Bob suggested, drop us an email with the settings you are using and we'll see if we can figure it out.

did you change it to passive ftp? I am not yet using MX 2004, I am just using MX, but FQ seems to require using passive ftp.

I do not have FileZilla. However I tested it with WSFTP Pro using SFTP/SSH and I can connect to Offshorebiz.com on FutureQuest without a problem. However I cannot connect using Dreamweaver MX 2004 with SFTP to this account.

Using Dreamweaver MX 2004 however with the same settings (yes passive is turned on) I connect without a problem to Belizean.com which I moved to Gossamer Host last week. I can also connect to Belizean.com with WSFTP PRO using SFTP/SSH without a problem.

My assumption is that the problem is on the FutureQuest side.

Hello Betsy and mromero,

I have downloaded and installed Dreamweaver MX 2004 and I have tested SFTP access with it. I was able to successfully access two of my accounts on separate servers, one with shared IP and one with Dedicated.

I also tested your Main Account Betsy and was successful. Arthur tested Offshorebiz.com with Dreamweaver MX 2004 SFTP, and was also successful and provided this screen shot...

We also note that it appears that Dreamweaver MX 2004 does not provide FTP logging capabilities for SFTP which does not allow for any additional troubleshooting from those :(

As two of us, using the program in question, were able to access both accounts in question using SFTP and logging does not appear to be available... well :dunno:

Thanks Bob. I'll give it another shot in the next day or two. In all honesty, I wasn't overly concerned about it but since the topic came up, figured I would add my problems in with it. I'll post when I get to it---maybe later today.

O.K. I'll continue trying to get in later today or tomorrow. I'm using the latest version 7.01 of Dreamweaver MX 2004, but what I cannot figure out is why I can connect to my other website not on FutureQuest without any problems...

Turns out my firewall developed a mind of it's own. I use a hardware firewall and for some reason, it decided it didn't like FTP'ing anymore. It's probably why I haven't been able to use AIM recently as well. Well, thanks for the push in figuring out that little bump in my life.

Hi again Betsy,

I am just glad you determined what the problem is as weird issues of this nature can cause lack of sleep, hair loss though in my case not loss of hair just loss of color :P and all kinds of other life irritating stuff ;)

Thanks for the follow-up,
Bob

As for me I do use a hardware firewall - so I disabled it and no luck.

SECURE FTP in Dreamweaver MX 2004 works great on the website I have at Gossamer Host but not on FQuest. I guess it's one of those unknown isues that might be resolved whenever Fquest or Macromedia upgrade their software in the future.

Or perhaps our friends at Echeolon are spying on our Fquest accounts since it's based in the U.S.A. and they cannot yet snoop on Canadian hosts.....

:P
