We have a simple site and sell just three sizes of our one product. We have no order page at present, though, and need to create one (we plan to try some aggressive opt-in email marketing to promote an opt-in newsletter that will contain a link to a site where product purchases can be made).

We have a merchant account with iPayment (not sure what it will take for web-based sales, if anything, if they allow it). We hope to get some volume going and are in need of a fully automated solution. I'm under the impression that authorize.net is a commonly recommeded provider, but I'm not clear on what they offer vs iPayment (our current merchant account provider -- not sure if they're a "gateway" or even what that term means, or if they're a "processor," or what... need to better understand these terms and what each entity does).

I've read about Kagi, iBill, Authorize.net, but know very little about what the offer or what we need, and what should be consolidated to one provider. A basic understanding of all this would be greatly appreciated, together with suggestions on the various providers to use. Obviously, we also need the order page on the site.

Naturally, we want to save money, but we also want top notch service (ie: we host with FQ, so that should indicate what level of service we like to shoot for).

(BTW, we'll probably also want to find a fulfillment house, but not necessarily.)

Thanks.

You should contact iPayment and ask them what solutions they recommend that are compatible with your account. Given the nature of your product, I would make sure you can handle both Internet orders and telephone orders.
