Hi Everyone:

I'm visiting and hope to get some help here!

I will be offering downloadable files in the form of jpgs that will be purchased by my customers. I'd like to use a processor like Kagi or such to handle the transactions. Kagi uses a system where they can password protect and limit time and download trys. I was wondering if I can use Kagi with a Future Quest site?

I'd like to be able to store my files on my site and have Kagi come in and grab the appropriate purchased files and then go through whatever it does to let the customer access their purchase. This is all very confusing. I certainly don't want my files accessible to everyone on the net, but I'm not sure how to do this. The info at Kagi says they use a CGI code (I think) to do all this, and I could store files on their server for a fee, or use my own server and use their code at no charge. Then there's all the password protection for downloading...etc. HELP!

I'm including a link to the Kagi page that has some info on this process. If someone could please take a look, or if you know the answer, I'd REALLY appreciate the help!

Please refer to this link at Kagi. It will be able to explain the situation much better than I can. Let me know what I need to do if this is possible. Thanks.

The Kagi link:

I keep going around in circles and desparately need some help to understand about all this downloading and secure servers and protecting and one thing works with another!

Also, does anyone know if a membership style site (or portion thereof) can be set up on an FQ site? There are some third parties that offer a membership setup option (2checkout.com for one).

thanks so much for any help!!!

I kinda thought the Kagi system required you to store the files on their server, but I could be wrong. I stopped using their service late last year.

If security is a concern, you definitely do not want to place the files in an unprotected location. Just takes one person spilling the beans to the rest of the world... If you read some threads here from about 6 months back, you'll see I've got more than my share of experience in the targeted fraud scenarios. :(

If you set up your own merchant account, I've got a download/access/payment system that would probably work for you and is relatively inexpensive. Probably wouldn't take long to counter the cost of paying Kagi extra for each transaction to store your files, if you went that route. Let me know if you'd like more info.

Hi Dan:
Thanks for the reply. I'll take you up on your offer I've got a download/access/payment system that would probably work for you and is relatively inexpensive. . At least I'll have more info in my arsenal.

I'm looking into 2checkout as well. This was their response about the questions:
The way that e-downloads work is like this:
1) Seller has product information in our database.
2) Seller puts HTML code on his web site.
3) Seller sets up a page on his server where the customer is passed back to
after payment to receive product link and password (Optional).
4) Seller puts product on his server and password protects it (Optional).
5) Buyer comes to the site and clicks the BUY link.
6) Buyer is sent to the payment form and inputs credit card information.
7) Buyer is sent to return page on seller's site to get the link and logon info
for the product. Address is masked by our address in the browser.
(* Getting password information to the Buyer is handled on the Seller's end. We
do not handle that. http://www.2checkout.com/memberoverview.htm This link
will take you to the Edownloads version of the Membership Script, which may be
helpful.)

Any thoughts, (FQ staff?). Can I at least do with FQ what I'm looking to do with digital downloads? I'm so confused right now, I don't even know how to ask the questions anymore. I definitely want my files protected, and I want customers to access via a password or something like that, and I want the time limited that they can access the file; thereafter, being denied access without further permission.

Thanks, Linda

I'd be a bit concerned about how secure that is, although I suppose it could be POST'ed more or less invisibly. I just don't like the idea of bouncing login info between servers when the idea is to keep the access area secret.

I'll take you up on your offer

I'll be out until Sunday evening in case you have any follow up questions... Leaving in about 3 hours.
