I'm not furious against FQ. But against another host. ****, I forgot how horrible it is to be on a "regular" host.

Let me explain. Before becoming a customer on FQ, years ago (see my forum registration date ...) I moved from host to host because they offered a very low service, with the servers down and the staff not even aware about it.

Since I found FQ, my problem were definitely resolved. I have hosted countess site on FQ, for several project, and still have several and was always satisfied with the service.

Just for fun I tried to create and host an adult site :). It didn't take long until someone on the FQ staff noticed it (bob I think) and gently asked to move it away since it was against the TOS. Which I did. (If you think you can cheat FQ, forget it.) So I opened an account with another host. Its been years I haven't moved a site out from FQ, and learned to forgot how horrible a web host can be.

In a month out there here are the problem I experienced:

-Mysql problem: they had a problem upgrading to mysql 4, and it took them over 24 hours to revert back to the old mysql: impossible to login in their "CNC" and to have mysql work properly

-Site down during a full google crawl: my site was simply dropped away from the google index

-Impossible to create a mysql database: their script had a problem

-Currently, as of writing, the site is down AGAIN, and its quite possible google will miss it again as I notice it crawls severals of my other sites (on FQ) right now.

-And the mysql server is so much slower than the one on FQ !!

This is A LOT of problem in a so short time. i'm so upset I wanted to tell it. The hosting industry is so bad I praise futurequest for being there.

I forgot how horrible it is to be on a "regular" host. We do our best to be anything but "regular" :P The hosting industry is so bad I praise futurequest for being there. Thanks Benj... we always appreciate being noticed for the good things ;)

Amen.

We're all so busy in here arguing over technicals, discussing details, informing each other, sharing ideas, or just plain having a hoot in the fun threads -- I think we often forget just how outstanding FutureQuest is.

In a way, that's as it should be -- hosting really should be that good... so solid and reliable and well serviced that you simply don't need to be spending time worrying about it.

But it isn't, on the overwhelming majority of hosts I've dealt with -- which is probably over a hundred by now, as part of my business is providing support services for others.

Not a one of them yet has been able to hold a candle to FQ!

HOURS later, after being briefly up again (just some time to complain on their forum with other very upset customers detailing all the problems of the month), the site is down again.

I keep waiting for that moment when I "forget," but it ain't happened yet.

Besides, I've got one non-FQ site to remind me. Did I mention that my boss's email was down on a daily basis for almost a week? Mail would hit the alias (her public address) and then stop. The POP box (non-public) was working the whole time -- it was just the alias that was off having a hoot somewhere.

They recreated the accounts several times and even updated the mail server (ArGoSoft Pro (http://argosoft.com/applications/mailserver/default.asp)), but it never lasted more than a day. In the end our "solution" was to convert the alias to a POP box. :rolleye:

Their tech guy was a good sport, and it's been working now for the last week and a half. But Terra would've had that server begging for mercy.
