Is there such a thing as a free 'stock' imagemap of the United States with each state imagemap area linked in such a way that I can use it as a base?

I don't know of any sources for something like that. But I will take this opportunity to point out that yesterday was, in fact, Jeff's birthday -- which he neglected to mention to anybody.

I would look around on US Gov't sites. They're not copyrighted, and I don't think there's a problem building on that work. At a glance, weather.gov would require some mods because a few districts overlap states.

Thanks Randall :)

And thanks for the leads. I found a "free" outline map so I think I'll use that as the base and create my own imagemap on top of that - probably just as easy as trying to remove the extra stuff.

--somehow I feel younger- last time I traced a US map was in grade school ;)

If that comapny is protecting its work, it would have to be noted on the web page, I think.

A couple of years ago I was looking for one of those for the :) Chipmunk Emergence Survey, and found this useful (though annoying nav) site with (restricted) free map clipart:

No free imagemaps, though it sounds like they have 'em and would be happy to sell.
