While looking for a content management thingy for my website, I came across Movable Type (http://www.movabletype.org/) . Does FQ let people use it? If yes, has anyone at FQ tried it? I want to know how customisable it is because I wouldn't use it just to post blogs or articles and links, but also photo galleries.
Here is one of the requirements I'm unsure about:
Support for the DB_File Perl (Berkeley DB) module OR the MySQL database & DBD::mysql
Since I don't have an account with MySQL (yet!), I wanted to know what the DB_File Perl is, does FQ offer it to all accounts? Are they talking about the flat database, the kind that is used by forums like Ikonboard?

I use it for my personal blog - it is somewhat less than ideally documented, but if you can wade through the install, it's a REALLY great app, very powerful. I did find that it went a WEE little bit overboard with the CSS - to the point where there were browser compatibility issues. I toned it down (without losing formatting) and it worked much faster, with complete cross-browser compatibility.
I use Movabletype for this site on Futurequest dagstani.net (http://www.dagstani.net) And I have been nothing but delighted with the flexibility of MT.

I looked at your site, and it looks good. How did you do it for the thumbnails? Did you add the image plug-in?
I would use MT to manage my whole site which is made out of the main page where I put the latest updates, and a small explanation of the site. Then there is my personal blog page, then there is my page where I put put links to my recent articles, and of course, there are the different article pages. There is also the jokes page (which can be considered as blog type). There is the picture page. And finally there is the links page.
Can all of this be done with MT?
yes mt can do all of that and much more. It will take an initial time investment but there is a great community in their support forums that will help you along. It doesn't have to look like a blog at all.
The thunbnails in the sculture portfolio were made in flash. the thumbnails in the main body are easily accomplished using the mt interface which generates thumbnails on the fly and the thumbnails in the drawing section are made with the mtgrid plugin. I am also running without mysql and have not had a problem.
hope this helps and best of luck.

Well, I just finished installing it. And might I say, man is this thing complicated (for me). It'll take me some time to get used to. Then I can start tweaking it.
But I don't see anywhere where I can set up a gallery or a links page :\

Well, after one day of tweaking and playing around, I've figured this thing out. And I must say, MT is very powerful, you were right gus, I'll be able to do all that and more, I just need time to tweak the templates, etc...
If I do everything right, MT will make life much much easier for me, and I might even get other people to help me out by giving them accounts.

I did a search on Movable Type in the forum, and found this thread, where Terra posted that MT is hard on a server if a site has heavey traffic. Here is the post http://www.aota.net/forums/showthread.php?postid=98304#post98304
But doesn't MT create html pages when there is a new entry. So it can only be a problem when you create entries or rebuild a site (and that doesn't last long), but besides those times, the site is like a normal html page site. Am I right? Or is my conception of how MT works wrong. I really need to know this before I redesign my whole website using MT.
