Not sure there are any theater geeks on FQ, but I'm trying to learn more about selling theater tickets online. There are quite a few box office software packages out there (VelvetSeat (http://www.velvetseat.com) for example) which include online ticket selling, but most of them look either a little half-baked or expensive and exclusive.
Simply setting up a shopping cart for tickets would seem to be a relatively simple task compared to other ecommerce applications (since real-time processing is not absolutely necessary), but I can see the advantage of having an integrated piece of software that not only manages printing tickets at the traditional window but also has a module for selling online. Is there some industry-standard software that major performing arts companies use?
The current project I've been hired for has a relatively small number of performances and we'll probably rely on links to pre-existing internet ticket brokers for online sales, but it would be great to offer a full ticketing solution in the future.
