When: Fri, Jan 23, 2004
Window: 12:00 AM to 3:00 AM EDT
Duration: 5 - 30 minutes: only affecting users of SpamAssassin

The current version of SpamAssassin running on the FutureQuest servers is 2.60. FutureQuest will be upgrading to the latest version, which is 2.63. This is a minor upgrade that does not include any major interface or configuration changes.

This upgrade makes the following changes: Avoid false positives on Outlook 2003 messages, mails from Mac, Palm, and localized versions of Eudora, several AOL MUAs, and newer versions of The Bat!
Fixed a bug related to generating and parsing the Received lines
Includes modification so that Habeas headers are parsed even if out of order
Modified two rules to reduce false positives
Added caching of body rendering results so that the message wouldn't be rendered the same way multiple times unnecessarily
Miscellaneous bug fixesDelivery of some inbound emails, which require scanning by SpamAssassin, may be briefly delayed. All other email services, including the sending of outbound email and delivery of inbound email, which does not require scanning by SpamAssassin, will be unaffected.

NOTICE: FutureQuest is unable to recover any email that is deleted or bounced as a result of email filters.

It is possible that the new version will assign different scores to your incoming email than the current version does. As a protection against losing valid email, if you have your email currently set to delete, you may wish to visit your CNC now and change this to some other action, or temporarily raise the Required Hits Score, to protect yourself against losing email. Once you have monitored the behavior of the upgraded version, and feel confident with your scoring choices, then you could set it to delete tagged messages once again.

Many thanks for staying on top of this valuable service.

To relieve my ignorance a bit, a question: What are "Habeas headers"?

Thanks,

Not being a lawyer, I believe Bruce is not qualified or required to answer that question.

Habeas (http://www.habeas.com/) is an organization that attempts to deliver "Sender Waranted Email". That is, email that is waranted by the sender to not be spam. Their web page explains it better than I could.

Thank heavens. I've lived in dire fear for some time now that Bruce had a law degree...
