I'm not sure of ferret prices, but I think good ones can be had for less than $100.00...
I would recommend getting them while they are very young so that they are more adapt to bond...
Most important tip I could ever offer is: Don't blow in their face!
They don't like that and may end up piercing your nose for you... ;)
All in all, they are great fun loving animals that have an insatiable curiosity streak...[nbsp][nbsp]I had mine (Kit) for 3 years and loved every moment of it...[nbsp][nbsp]My cat and it finally came to an understanding which made it much more enjoyable whereas before, all they would try to do was creatively eat each other...

or special care instructions for them? Keep away from foam or soft rubber, including remote controls and certain types of shoes...

Thanks Terra and Dan!
I have been wanting one for a few years now and knew you (TeRRA) had one (Kit) so I thought I would ask here.
One of our dogs died Sunday night and our other dog we have had for 10 years seems a bit sad and thought a ferret would be a nice addition :)
Thanks!

Kit ate cat food - which is why the cat and the ferret would duke it out sometimes...
But if you leave your garbage unguarded, and your ferret is missing - look deep inside first...
Another thing, Kit was a scavenger meaning that if you start to miss stuff - look for their stash...[nbsp][nbsp]He especially liked snagging pieces of green paper, until he understood this was the true source of his cat food...

My aunt and uncle's family have had ferrets for many years...I couldn't have one -- they're cute, but I could never get used to their smell!![nbsp][nbsp]How do you do it?
Like a dog, I don't think they're supposed to have chocolate??
I'll see if I can get a few tips from my cousins :).

and[nbsp][nbsp]9 week old either are $119.. two diffrent stores too.. the 9 week old on would require a 22 mile trip (which I dont mind to take :P)
What would you choose Terra??

I've had a couple a'friends with Ferrets. I myself, one who will only have a pet that just sleeps on me while I watch TV, can't take pets who require:
a) too much work. :P
b) too many sacrifices like smelling them.
That rules out: small to large dogs (must be tiny), smelly but awesome animals (Ferrets), fish (cleaning the tank), cats, etc. :D
<rambling alert>
Personal Examples:
Mr. Yogi Chubbs: Awesome and chubby Pekingese dog with lots of personality. We had him for almost a year and--despite all the work--I loved him dearly. When he was around a year old he was still peeing all over the place and stubbornly refused to learn any better (he was also lonely because he wasn't entertained all day). :) Stubborn little Yogi was great, though. I eventually gave him to my sister & bro-inlaw who already had another Penkingese, named Geisha (she was also depressed). Even though Yogi is missed, I know by seeing him the last time I was in Texas that he is very happy and smiley, has another awesome dog whom he plays with all day, and has caretakers who don't mind cleaning up the aftermath of his weak stomach :P , and he has a nice big house and yard to romp in and out of.
General Mushi-Mushi Okoyani: a Siamese fighting fish (aka Beta) who had his own 2 gallon bowl with many plants. With age he became began his slow decease into fishy heaven. I always hated cleaning the gravel in that stupid tank, changing the water, and the whirring/bubbling noise it made while I slept :P ... but other than all of that, he was a cool looking little booger.
</rambling>
Now that I have brain-farted, back to the ferrets: one of my bud's ferret would hide in his laundry, in the dryer, and behind the fridge. I never heard of a Ferret who jumps into trash bags :) but I could certainly see that happenning. Plus sides: This ferret was somehow taught to play hide and seek / tag... very nifty and humorous.

How do you get used to that smell?

Here are some tips:
Things like chocolate and anything with onion or onion powder are usually a bad idea...suggest no dairy and not a lot of sugary things.[nbsp][nbsp]There are so many sites on the web...I have a few good ferret sites listed on my site :):[nbsp][nbsp]http://www.myparentime.com/petspot.html#EXOTICS
Best always,
