My website software company is offering a free shopping cart software program that is downloadable in either Perl/CGI or in PHP. Since I know nothing about either, which would be my best choice to try. Does one have less of a learning curve. Any advice appreciated. Fred Hilton
If you want to customize the cart to your liking, you'll probably find the learning curve less steep for PHP. If all you want to do is install it and change the templates (if it has any) for a different look, either should be equally well suited.

I would agree with Dan's comments, but I would add...
If you want maximum flexibility, like the capability to work with the widest range of credit card payment processors, then you should choose the Perl version...
But, as Dan mentioned, the Perl version will have a higher learning curve for installation and maintenance.
If you are not familiar with either Perl or PHP, I would recommend that you have your cart professionally installed.
I didn't think of the potential payment processor limitations of PHP. I haven't run into that myself, but it's a good point. There probably are some processors out there that would require Perl (or something else), or that would at least provide more options with their system.
For what it's worth, Authorize.net works just fine with a PHP cart.
