View Full Version : 2Checkout under DOS attack - again

2Checkout is down again thanks to yet another DOS attack; they're frequently targeted and don't seem well enough equipped to deal with it. ARGHHH!! This has cost me several sales in the last 24 hours.... People go to process their credit card payment and nothing happens; they just wait and wait and then they bail (can't blame them). I can tell because my cart software alerts me to incompleted orders.
2Checkout is a terrific alternative to a traditional merchant account. When it's not under attack, that is. I have a merchant account and payment gateway ready, just waiting on Secure_Mode implementation on Apache SSL. At this point, it can't happen soon enough.
Just venting... Losing sales (and customers) tends to make one cranky.

Kagi was getting regularly targeted last year, it seemed. :( Fortunately, it was my secondary payment option and I was never directly affected, so far as I know.

Ten hours after my original post and 2Checkout is still not available.
I usually do a lot of sales on the weekend. Usually....

You might be where I was a month or two ago: having to weigh the uncontrollable losses from using a 3rd party processor against the base costs (and lower transaction fees) of setting up your own merchant account.

I noticed that spamhaus.org (http://www.spamhaus.org/cyberattacks/index.html) started using iSecure, during a DoS attack, and it seems to have worked for them, while simmilar sites who were attacked had to shut down. I was hoping to find out which payment processors use iSecure, but iSecure's testimonials page (http://www.ddos.com/html/testimonials.html) saysEnterprises, ISPs, and online e-commerce and content providers have chosen to not be named to avoid the attraction of dDoS attack traffic and Penetration Tests to validate their defenses.

I actually do have one. Just waiting on Secure_Mode for SSL here at FQ. My cart software requires Safe_Mode be disabled.

P.S. Nearly 20 hours later and 2Checkout is still down.... and so are my holiday weekend sales.

Ah, that would be a problem.

And your spirits, too, I imagine. :(

They're not especially honest about it either. Some of their pages sayDear visitors, currently we are perfoming server maintenance at the moment.
Please press Ctrl+F5 to refresh
Sorry for inconveniences.

36 hours later........ 2 Checkout is still dead!!!
I should add that their support stinks too. So there. Pa-tooey.
I guess I'm going to have to write one of those off-putting "attention credit card customer" things at my site. Sigh.......
Tom
How important is it to you to stick with your existing cart? I had pretty good luck getting osCommerce running the way I wanted it on FQ's servers, and since you already have your own merchant account, you could probably get that up and running before 2Checkout is back...

I'm kinda married to it (X-Cart) at this point. I have over 300 items listed and I need to charge sales tax by county here in NY (I had X-Cart do a customization for that). I mean, I know Secure_Mode/SSL is in the works, so I know that at some point I'll have all that I need. In the meantime, I'll need to find a 2Checkout-like stopgap.
Tom
I do not know these guys here, but I was looking into their services as a go between until I can get my merchant account set up.
