Hi all, my site is open and I would graciously encourage you to stop by and say hello. I am still running into several problems however (can't get the correct font to appear) and I'm sure it needs some serious tweaking. If those so disposed could take a look and let me know in lay terms what's wrong or could be improved, I would be deeply indebted.
BTW, anybody remember the site posted in one of the other folders mentioning a site where you could make your own banners?
Thanks, Brian.

Hey flesh2dust,
I took a look at your site. When I get more of an opportunity to read the chapters more, I think it would be a great addition to my Celebrate Life site as a link or banner to you.
Regarding your text dilemna...
You're code has <font face="Bart"> You should have at least two font face choices. I know my computer doesn't have a font called "Bart" and so I will see my default font of Times New Roman. Using graphics insures the same font all of the time, but can weigh down your download time. I'd suggest using a few choices.
I know that style sheets give you some control, but --knowing little about them -- I don't think it will show a font that a view doesn't have. Does that make sense or am I rambling on this fine Monday?
BTW, nice site...I like your layout and design.

i think the rotating .gifs would look better on a lighter background so you don't see all the white outlines ...
and I agree with Shaytar.. how come you had your site open up in a new window?
That is some definitely deep thoughts and some intense reading.. You wrote this? I think it is fascinating that you are sharing your thoughts like that.. Kinda makes ya think.
I am definitely gonna go back later and read more.

PS... if you think you are using a font that most of the viewers wouldn't have, you could always make the font available for download. OR offer an alternative font in your tags.

Nice site!
Just wondering why you have the link on the index page set to open in a new window?
Is it really necessary?
Otherwise, looks good!

Thanks to all who took the time to peruse the site, and a special thanks to those who responded with suggestions.
As for the main page opening in a new window, I don't know why I did it, but it certainly seems a bit annoying now, huh?
On the font point, can I upload the font and place the reference in the code at the appropriate spot...will that work? At a minimum, I will place a second font in the code as an alt.
Thanks for the compliment there, hearts, and yes I did write it all. But this site's given more trouble than writing the book!
Thanks again all and good luck in your endeavors...and hope to see you all around...

Hey Brian,
what I did when I was working on another site, Mike and I wanted to use this one font we thought was kinda neat, and we made it available for download and had a little note up at the top "best experienced with this type font" and gave brief instructions on how to install the font.
It might not be the best choice, but at the time it was fun!
What we did since then is create transparent .gifs.
I think it gets kinda boring to use just New Times Roman. There are several fonts that are fairly okay to use.
Just keep in mind some of your fonts come from graphics programs and such and not all viewers have these specialty fonts or collect them like i do! http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif
If you really want to use a "specialty font" .. like I said, you can make it available for download. ALSO.. keep in mind that all fonts range in size .. even though they are specified to <font size=+3> .. a script font may appear normal at this size but new times roman could seem HUGE.
List your fonts in order of preference. The first one, would be what you would like everyone to see, and the second one would be the default for the viewer, *should they have that font*
and why is your site giving ya so much trouble? They are fun to create.. there is always something to do or to try. I just always hate working on my own. I find it more fun to work on someone elses! http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif
and I wouldn't say the "new window" is annoying by any means.. honest. It just doesn't serve any real purpose.
good luck and I look forward to the rest of your chapters!

Thanks again hearts for the personal attention! I think I'm just going to change the font to something more traditional, and then work on other options a bit further down the road. You're probably right about working on the site; however, so much is going on right now...
Sadly, I know I'll look back and think, "wow, that was exciting creating the site!"
I do rather humbly as one more question, could you or someone go onto the site and make sure that you can retrieve Chapter 4 into your browser. This one gentlemen continues to send e-mail about everything under the sun--I think he just wants to be apart of something--but this is the latest.
Thanks, Brian.

can I upload the font and place the reference in the code at the appropriate spot...
There is an idea similar to this brewing, and may become available in a future version of CSS (cascading style sheets) (maybe). The theory is that there can be a central 'database' containing most every font available. Then, you can specify which font you want, and where it's located (eg <link rel="font" src="http://url.to/bob.ext"> ). That way you can use a font that isn't available on everyone's individual computer, but everyone will still be able to see it.
You can read more about it at http://www.w3.org/TR/WD-CSS2/fonts.html#h-14.3.1 , but it's not widely available/in-use yet...

HI Brian....
I got your email.. unfortunately.. I am about to crash before my computer does! http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif Seriously.. I need to get some sleep.. would you please update me in email on your links.. send me all of them in email and as soon as I wake up.. *in a few hours* .. I will get to seeking your answers. *I promise*
Also, as I stated before, I had no problems downloading your site. It could be a personal thing with individuals servers, backbones and such. I can promise you this, if there were ANY kind of problem with FQ itself, TERRA (aka Andrew) would post here in the forums under "Server News".
And MSIE is not always the best browser.. *let's not get started on that.. shall we? *Grin*
For whoever emails you and tells you that they are having probs.. tell them to check with their server for status info, *especially if* you know FQ is doing fine! I am sure Andrew would have more or better to say on this, this is his expertise.. not mine! http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif
Sorry If I am not as much help.. but do forward me all your links and I will follow up on them first thing.
---editing----
oh.. and one more thing.. I believe the error message you were referring to is.. "No DNS". Double check on that for me too.
