So, out of curiosity, are FQ resellers going to bring their hosting package names in line with FQ's new theme, keep the old, or come up with a new one?
I'll probably just go to numbered packages. The new ones are too vague for my taste, but I need to update my old ones (I went with Bronze instead of Basic for theme consistency and never offered the Starter) to accomodate the new package, so re-naming is in order.
Dan
I decided on a plan of attack:
Package 2 (was Bronze) -> Pioneer
Package 3 (was Silver) -> Prospector
Package 4 (was Gold) -> Trailblazer
Package 5 (new) -> Voyager
Package 6 (was Platinum) -> Odyssey
Packages 1 & 7 I won't offer because there's no discount, so there's no point in me being a middle man. If a client needs either of those packages, they'd be better served going direct through FutureQuest.
Why start the numbering at 2? Because that the overall FQ numbering, and more importantly, because that's makes the package numbers correspond to the Reseller points assigned to each for an annual account. Since I prefer not to offer monthly accounts, that's really the only number that matters to me.
I probably won't even mention the new FQ names on my hosting page, but I'll have them on my handy little spreadsheet printout on the bulletin board next to me. I'm not even going to pretend for a minute that I'll ever remember them all, let alone in the proper order. %)

In my own arena of resold accounts, I seriously doubt any of my clients even know the name of their package, which makes renaming them a non issue. I am going to have to update my database with the new names, but that's not a biggy. It's human nature to resist change, as I have seen many times with script changes, and even a spellchecker change of late. Everytime though, it blows over after a while and the fussing dies down.

Dan, I agreed with you in the earlier thread and I agree now, but wasn't that Star1, Star2...
I'm not a reseller and don't plan to go in that direction but it seems to me that if I were I'd prefer a set of names that differentiated my offering from that of my supplier.
Andi
I started out with the star system in that discussion, but the terminology it later morphed into was my preference: QuestPac 1, QuestPac 2, etc. I went with the generic "Package x" naming for my own use because "Quest" only makes sense for FutureQuest.

I'm still thinking of new names, more quest-related. I don't really market the packages, but I'm thinking of new names anyway.
Continent
Planet
Solar System
Galaxy
Universe

I'm not technically a reseller either, but given the more subdued tone of this thread, I think I'll post my thoughts here. ;)
FQ could retain the "voyage" theme and eliminate any confusion between pakages simply by applying it to the numeric series most of use seem to prefer:
Voyage 1
Voyage 2
etc.
Or perhaps a non-numeric series that implies increasing distance or travel time, like Kitchin's. Maybe even something pseudo-exotic like Voyage Galactique and Voyage Universale...

Well, my attempt to be tactful about the new names in the other thread went terribly off-course. But I still think it wise to defer criticism and at least let the new names succeed or fail on their own merits. I don't know who made the decision but it was made and some consideration should be given to that.
I think we should let it go and revisit the issue in a month or two after the FQ staff have had a chance to road-test the new names. That's just my quiet opinion and what I was TRYING to convey in the other thread.

Agreed. I wasn't blaming you for the ruckus in there -- not this time, anyway. :P
But I figured I'd toss this idea out as a compromise before everyone has their heels permanently dug in.
If FQ should decide to adopt my idea, all I ask is that they name a server after me. mE

I sensed some sense going on in that thread, but I like this one better, too, Andi. Mmmmm, I wonder if there's high fructose corn syrup in ice cream...

Maybe they should have named the packages after ice cream instead. Make mine a double scoop of Rocky Road, please. :lick:

I do want to at least give them a spin around the parking lot first... Checking my watch, they've barely been started ;) Originally posted by Randall:

- It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power.

Artillery Turtle! These reptiles are more suited for warfare, Iraq maybe? Sure looks like a desert. Dessert?
Hi Fructose.

Great turtle, though it might make LightGuide more paranoid than usual. :P Dessert? That's it -- time to hit the freezer. A pint of Ben & Jerry's Uncanny Cashew is calling my name.

ah, my personal "Charlie Brown" theory of how to deal with life. I bet he kissed Lucy more times than we will ever know. My resold accounts haven't had to send in one dime since the upgrade. Sounds good to me. ;) and it sounds good to them, at least in their utter silence.

Stop that! Stop that! There will be no hijacking of this thread to show pictures of turtles.

Can't fault me for trying though ;) Originally posted by hobbes:

Blame the Voyager Package, not Marketing :P

Blame the Voyager Package, not Marketing I think you missed a great marketing opportunity -- you could have told all the Platinum customers they were being upgraded to the new Titanium plan for free :D
-- What's the upgrade? Why the package name of course; haven't you had enough freebies for this year? Never! --
Yeah but now ALL of the full package site owners have been freely upgraded, rather than just the big boys.... they should be THRILLED :P

Ack! Thphhhttt!
Don't you have something better to do :-? Like work on mo' upgrades or wipe yer monitor with a turtle (http://store.yahoo.com/meritline/monitor-cleaner-turtle.html) ?
Hmmm you buy me a monitor wiping turtle and I'll see what I can find in the toy box back here ;)

I think you missed a great marketing opportunity -- you could have told all the Platinum customers they were being upgraded to the new Titanium plan for free... Probably would have caused a lot less confusion and protest than the current changes.
It might work if Songdog's time warp erases the last few days...

I think I'll get my father a hippo monitor wiper (http://store.yahoo.com/meritline/monitor-cleaner-hippo.html), just because it's so weird.
Or just because he's so weird -- last year I gave him a rubber chicken for Father's Day, and he treats it like an adopted child. A hippo on his monitor seems totally appropriate.
