Hi Folks,
I am Graham from London and am wrestling with the idea of signing up here to host my music site.
Speed is important to me, uptime, technical support and more than a little hand-holding.
Am I likely to get that here. I'd be grateful for your comments.

Am I likely to get that here
I signed up a couple of months ago. There were some slow-downs due to a large number of new accounts flooding in, but I believe that things are stable now and will continue to get even better.
My last provider was very inflexible and there was no interaction between the customers like here.
I've never entertained any thoughts about moving.

Hi Graham,
I'm a fellow U.K (Bedford) web user and all I can say is FQuests support is second to none. Sure they've had their teething problems as you would expect any new host to have but you're always kept informed of what's going on.
Thoroughly recommended http://www.aota.net/ubb/biggrin.gif

I second all that Dean and Benson have said. I spent 3 months looking for a host that I thought would just about suit my every possible need and be down-to-earth. And was getting pretty frustrated with most of the companies out there. Almost gave up on the whole process until I found FutureQuest. Am very happy here and plan on staying forever.

Not here! Believe me, this is the best place your site could possibly be. I'm sure you've had a look around, and if you check out the Server News forum, you will see the technical support in action. This you will not find anywhere, in any business on the internet.

hehe...
I don't think you'll find any unhappy customers here. While FQ has its share of host problems (as they all do), the customer support is A+ and the technical support is A+. If you like an open, honest communication with a host provider that works to resolve problems at their root cause...and implements plans so they do not occur again in the future...and if you like smilies http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif...you've come to the right place.
Oh, yeah, and those people around here with names like Andrew, Deb, Heidi, Joseph, and Desiree (our hosts) are a pretty nice bunch too!

Dear Rich,
I am getting a very good feeling for it. The trouble is, I am terrified by CGI, I would rather pull my own head off than do CGI and the competing host that I am looking at (it wouldn';t be right to say who) has a facility called 'Virtual Control Panel' that automatically installed scripts like:
Guestbook
WWW Board
FormMail
Text Counter
Postcards
Random Links
Free For All Links
Random Images
Graphical Counter
Web Site Advertiser
and configure a 404 message
I get the impression that it's a little more difficult here.

I had never installed a cgi script until about a month ago (never really understood the concept either), and now I'm modifying them, helping others to install scripts, etc. It's not nearly as difficult as you would think, and I have to say that doing it this way (manually?) makes it a lot better for trouble shooting, and gives you a lot more options than letting a cgi install a cgi (which is what a "Virtual Control Panel" likely is).
You can count on my help if you ever need it, as most likely a few others would be glad to help you out too. They helped me when I didn't know anything about cgi, so it's my turn to share what I've learned (that's the whole idea of "Community Support", I guess http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif)

when i signed up here, i barely knew more than html. now i can say i know some of a little of a lot. http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif
I was petrified of CGI. but that really ain't the point. the point is, not only do you get a hosting company with future quest, you gain a new community.
things ain't perfect by any stretch of the imagination. BUT.. then again.. NOTHING IS.
this company is honest, they tell it like it is, and these forums are set up so we can learn, educate, and encourage each other and become more self sufficient in what we would like to do.
i am sure it is great to find a hosting company that offers you a bunch of CGI that you can install by cutting and pasting a short script of code, but will that really make them a BETTER hosting company?
tech support from future quest 24/7 -- whether it is the forums, email, or vial telephone.
the main reason i chose future quest is because of the community support the forums have.
i am trying to think of atleast one thing bad to tell ya. it would be easier to tell you to go read the "server news" that is where andrew posts all the "bad stuff".
the server is run by real people.. a real family... and they have good values.
but then again.. this is just my opinion.. and everyone's could differ! (not by a whole lot here though! http://www.aota.net/ubb/wink.gif )

http://www.aota.net has some simpler things that you can do like that (counter, guestbook, etc.). Haven't used any of it yet though.
Glad to hear you're feeling better, hearts http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif

hi guys... http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
my point was... now I know how to do these things.. *giggle*
then my other point was.. it is not just what can your server provide for you... how are you willing to use what your server provides?
if ya want a web master.. hire one. if ya want a server.. build your own site! *and they will come*

I only have great words for FQ, even with the recent price increases, I'm hard pressed to find better service, which is the most important thing to me.

I'm just learning CGI myself. Del spent a long time, along with others, helping me with my nervous questions. I have ran into a few programs that had bugs in them...so if the program says to not let this be your first script...I'm still a little nervous. But otherwise, I'm out searching for cgi's all of the time. Thanks to FQ great help. http://www.aota.net/ubb/smile.gif
