Hello,
Anybody know of any payment processors that are handling the proposed consolidated U.S. sales tax rules on the web?
-John
Most payment processors do not offer tax or shipping rate services directly, although there are a few exceptions. Most payment processors only receive the total amount to be charged, which would already include shipping, tax, and any other fees.
Tax calculation is usually a part of the shopping cart or order processing software. This is the ideal place to perform the tax calculation since the tax rate will usually vary by the type of product sold.
Here are a couple of starting places that offer real-time tax calculation services:

Cybersource is also a payment processor, so this is one of the exceptions to the rule. :) However, since they target large enterprises, you will probably find their rates on the high side and they probably assume you have a few full-time developers who will implement this service on your dedicated servers.

Esalestax is incorporated into a few major shopping carts. Again, be prepared to setup a dedicated server to use this or any other real-time sales tax service.
