View Full Version : [FQuest Notice] Email Service Interruption
When: Friday February 7th, 2003
Window: 12:00am - 2:00am EST
Duration: 30 - 120 minutes
The POP Toaster 01 (PT01) will be taken off line to facilitate the migration of email handling to PT02 due to a failing drive in PT01.
This will result in the inability to access your email (via POP or IMAP) through the FutureQuest email servers during the maintenance period. You will still be able to send email as this will not be affected.
This may also affect the ability to access the Email manager of your CNC during the maintenance period.
All incoming email delivered to FutureQuest during the actual work will be received and queued on the Front end mail servers for delivery after maintenance is completed.
There should be no email lost as a result of this migration.
Our apologies for any inconveniences this may cause.
-Bob
Yep Andi you are right :)

not to be nip ticky but I think you mean Friday the 7th, which just seems like Thursday night if you haven't gone to bed yet...

"Gone to bed"? You mean there are people who don't fall asleep at the computer? Weird.

Due to unforseen delays in beginning this maintenance work, the window has been extended.
Window: 2:00 am - 6:00 am ET
Duration: 30 - 120 min
We expect work to begin shortly. Further updates will follow.
We apologize for any inconveniences this will cause.

Update:
Maintenance work on the POP Toasters has begun and they have been taken off-line. Mail delivery is now temporarily suspended.
Every effort is being made to keep the interruption in mail services as short as possible.
Our apologies for the inconveniences.

Of course, this happens the SECOND after I purchase vBulletin, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to set it up. %)

The new POP toaster PT02 is now fully operational. Email is flowing normally.
Actual downtime for POP services was from 2:41 to 4:29. Incoming mail handling was restored shortly after that time.
Our apologies for the extended down time.
Is there anything I should change to be able to send mail? Outlook Express keeps asking for my password and then rejects it. I've been experiencing this problem for about 20 minutes on my main account (on SIX).
Thanks,
Elek
Ditto here - I can't send e-mails either. Password not accepted... (on Taz)
(20 minutes later... it's fixed now! Thanks!)

Found and fixed...
We had a rogue entry still pointing to the PT01 server...
Sorry for the confusion...

Is there much of a queue between the 'Front end mail servers' and the new PT02?

I know I have had two emails sent to my account during the period of the maintenance work. They haven't reached me yet, so I'm interested in how long the wait might be.

I just sent two test messages through RR, and they came through quickly... Bob has also been testing Remote ==> POP delivery and everything has been speedy...
I need more exact info, as you may be running filters and such...

Did the test email to myself. Still hasn't arrived.
I've sent the details to support@futurequest.net. Note - I've sent them from two different email accounts (one which is not a FQ one).

I can't send e-mail. I keep getting this.
"553 SMTP Relaying Denied: Visit http://www.error-553.net for more info."
Hello,
As I just responded to you via email from the Service Desk. The error you are reporting is one that indicates that your email client is not properly authenticating itself.
I would suggest reviewing this tutorial in regards to this:
http://www.aota.net/Email/setupauth.php4
In addition, as it appears that the ISP you are using is known to block Port 25 this tutorial may apply as well:
http://www.aota.net/Troubleshooting/port25.php4
If after reviewing both of these you are still having problems and have eliminated your ISP blocking Port 25 we would need the following information to allow further investigation. This would have to be sent to Service@FutureQuest.net for obvious security reasons:
Domain:
email account:
username:
password:
pop server:
smtp server:
Authentication Method:
(The above does need to be the exact settings in your email client)
error message:
error code:
email client:
ISP:
(FutureQuest is unable to trouble shoot locally without all of this information)
Thanks in advance,
Bob
