We have observed an extremely high rate of scans/probes targetting UDP port 1434 (Microsoft-SQL-Monitor), which is currently causing extremely high latencies on all Internet backbones...

A visual of the downturn can be viewed here:
http://www.internetpulse.net/

We have blocked off this port at our ingress choke point, and dropping the packets as fast as possible... In 60 seconds, we received over 5000 probe packets, however our routers are extremely robust and will handle the onslaught without too much of a sweat...

So for now, expect potential sluggishness trying to browse the Internet at large... We will do what we can to stem the tide in our own backyard...

This one seems to have hit some of our sites really hard (right now still down). Of course not the FQ ones- alive and kicking throughout. The news is slowly making it onto sites like CNN, Slashdot etc.

I see South Korea has been hit particularly hard. BBC article on the subject. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/2693925.stm)

Wow - I see some datacenters/hosts like fastservers who have lots of windows servers were down for 16 hours! Even though I heard Internap was hit hard by this, I didn't notice even a blip on the FutuerQuest network (my connection here is probably much to laggy to notice if there was increased latency, but all the sites on the FutureQuest servers popped right up for me as usual)

Worse than you think... from one ISP here - the largest, as it were - I still cannot get to FQ - or at least, I couldn't until I installed some sort of local web proxy.

I hope this thing settles down soon. Having no access to my site or email can be a real pain.
