And what is the Redmond Linux Corp?

<edit> A little searching tells me it's a modified KDE 3.x, but I'm still hoping someone can tell me more than that. </edit>

It looks like Lycoris is a Linux distro targetting a similar market to Lindows ie "easy to learn" Linux [1]. Redmond Linux Corp is the holding company.

[1] "easy to learn" and "easy to use" are not the same thing, and confusion between them is a good obfuscation tactic.

I suppose I was wondering about it being in Redmond. Seems the founder *did* work for Microsoft and changed the name to Lycoris to get out from under that connotation. The thing looks attractive enough, and the Wal-Mart box is cheap enough, still I'd like to hear from someone who's actually tried it.

From the Lycoris website:Joseph Cheek's highly technical background has allowed him to work for companies such as Linuxcare (as a Senior Linux Consultant) and Microsoft (as a network and systems tester). He co-authored the book "Integrating Your Network with Caldera OpenLinux 2.3", was a Technical Contributor to Microsoft's Windows 98 Resource Kit, and writes a monthly Linux column for Computer Source Magazine. As an entrepreneur Joseph has worked as a freelance computer network consultant in both the Novell NetWare and Linux spaces.I can hardly blame him for staying in Redmond, I love the Pac NW, lived there for four years (ok the south end of the Pac NW, Humboldt County, CA). I'd like to go back...

I've played with it a little. It's been very popular with the desktop Linux camp -- has a higher credibility than Lindows by a long shot -- and unlike the other Windows-ish distros like Lindows or Xandros, there's a free download. (Xandros interests me because of its Debian/Corel heritage, but I'm not ready to plunk down my cash on any one distro just yet.)

I think it's based on Caldera Openlinux.
