R O B O T I C[nbsp][nbsp][nbsp][nbsp]S P O R T S ! ! !

Anyone else seen it? Do I need to seek help?

Last night I took a look at Comedy Central and found this show called BattleBots. Geeks build destructive robots (complete with chain-saws, battle axes, rotary saws, claws, sledge hammers, spikes) to fight it out to the end on this show in true WWF style (without the cheesy soap-opera and faux-fighting). It is by far one of the most entertaining and hilarious shows I've seen in awhile. Imagine a light-weight bot with horizontal rotary saws (thousands of rpm's) against another light-weight with a battle axe... this my fellow geeks is friggin entertainment! There are actually robotic sports organizations, of which include RobotWars & BattleBots.

New shows will air each on Comedy Central on Wednesday at 10:30PM with repeat broadcasts airing Saturday at 5:00 PM and 11:00 PM.

No replies?

Where are the geeks? I'm beginning to develop a complex here! Should I be posting over at Geek village? Am I delusional?

I'm getting it now... It's the degrading status of simply "Member" I must live and receive replies by, isn't it? :D ;)[nbsp]

In the last 2 months, I have had the time to watch ZERO hours of TV...

So I am excused from class...[nbsp][nbsp];)

The half-hour show is so good it leaves more to be wanted. I'm hooked now. However, all of the Comedy Central shows are based from the same Battle Bots convention/fight/tournament in Las Vegas... I'm guessing it went on for a day or two since we're seeing 13 half-hour episodes.

Bots with a horizontal rotary saws seem to have the best offense and defense so far because they cover ALL of their sides and rip the other bot apart if they even come close. A bot with just a battle-axe seem to be limited to cover two sides.

My pick on coolest looking robot from battlebots.com?
The super heavy weight Mechadon, weighing in at 472 pounds. http://www.battlebots.com/meet_the_robots/a_super_heavyweights/mechadon.html

For you non-geeks, it's still outrageously entertaining: "Television Critics Association at their annual summer press tour placed BattleBots among the top 10 original cable launches for the remainder of 2000. Making number five on the list the article mentioned that of the flurry of new cable programs announced BattleBots was one of the more promising cable series that should stand out from the pack."

Come on, guys! Speak up!

I saw the opening episode and was moderately amused. While I like seeing machinery rip apart other machinery (hey, what guy doesn't?) one of the matches was a complete dud. The heavyweights just swung and missed a lot without doing any damage. Much like in boxing, the interesting part was watching the little guys kick the heck out of each other.

Maybe someday we'll get to see TAZ and ASTRO fight to the death ;)[nbsp]

This isn't the first time I've seen bots fighting on Comedy Central.[nbsp][nbsp]Tom Servo and Crow used to go at it all the time.[nbsp][nbsp]:P

hmm perhaps Justin and Terra could take up a new side hobby when not messing w/ servers.[nbsp][nbsp]Bet they could build some interesting bots...lol.

Time to give true meaning to downtime!!![nbsp][nbsp]LMAO.

I have never seen the show on TV. I watched them film it live at Vagas. (Had a filming going on when I was in for Comdex, so I stopped by.).

It was really cool, but the film crew slowed things up a lot. Took about 5 minutes between battles for them to reset everything. Everybody waited. At the half way point was a 30 minute wait as they changed tapes. (How long does it take to swap a tape anyway?)

Like Football, it's better on TV then in person.

I just found a Questarian who has sites (and tons of domains) dedicated to bots and the like (nice directory category on robotic combat): http://www.RobotCafe.com/ !!!!
