Just saw an advert for Macromedia's new CMS program called Contribute. It looks quite interesting, but I haven't been able to figure out who is supposed to make the purchase, web designer or client... or both? I'll probably figure it out just as soon as I have a chance to download the public beta, but am already really curious. Anyone tried this software out yet?

Thanks, Matt

Quoting Cameron Barrett http://cms-list.org/It is important to note that Contribute is NOT a CMS. It is a client side tool that you drop into your existing production workflow...

Email me for his entire comment, I'm not comfortable posting long blocks of other peoples' text--it arrived as email so there is no direct link to it... I'd suggest subscribing to the list if this interests you.

Andi,
Just finished reading the e-mail you sent (thanks). I think that this is a matter of semantics. There is no question that however you may define what 'CMS' means, Macromedia Contribute is a direct competitor to CMS software.

I do agree with his general assessment that "For small Web site[sic], this product is an excellent solution." Of course it's not a drop-in replacement for existing CMS solutions (nor a solution for vast web sites with a large number of contributors).
